STR8 6 Power
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:14:36 PM »
I am looking for a straight 6 power scope in the 100 to 125 dollar range. All I could find local was a Barska . What recomendations do you have to offer?

The only thing I can think of would be Weaver, stay clear of Barska. Of course that just my opinion.

Where I live and hunt, a 6X scope is in the middle of two applications, but serves neither very well.  What will you be shooting with the 6X scope?  Why have you chosen this power magnification?
Not an attack on your selection, just a question.

I am placing this on a bull barrel 243 H&R Handi. Application will be 200 to 300 yard shots deer from a blind. And an occasinal coyote hunt from same blind. The straight 4 power on my 30/30 does not seem like enuff from the stand . And I am tired of the fussin with a varible.

I began deer hunting 50 years ago with a fixed scope and have only used variable Leupolds since then.  Own about a dozen.  For this reason, I am uncertain what kind of problems you might be having with past variables?  Who made them? Send them back for service.

Used Leupold.  Ebay occasionally.  I think they are usually in the $150 range.

The Vortex Crossfire 6x at Cameraland is $59 (was $114).

In that price range, you can look around for an older Japanese scope.  I have one that came with a used Rem 700 that is marked Mauser and made in Japan.  It is a really nice scope.  You might luck out and get a Leupold 6x for that price, but don't wait around if you see one.  K6 Weavers can usually be had for that kind of money, but lately the 6x scopes have gotten scarce.  The Vortex might not be a bad choice, but I haven't looked through one.  I am also a fan of 6x scopes.
