Mossberg CF rifles

Don't know much about their rifles, own a Mossberg model 500 20ga only. It's not that bad of a gun but dosn't compare to the Rem 870. I was on GB site and see alot of them priced around $300. My ? is how accurate are their guns in general as a out of the box rifle? I think as a entry level gun they wouldn't be that bad. I see that some of the earlier ones where made by Howa. Thinking of getting one just for a truck gun beater. Zeak

Well my experience is that these are much more than beaters, especially the 4x4 with laminated wood.  I've had contact with 3 of em, but not my own.  All 3 were MOA or better out of the box.  I've been considering a .308 or.30-06 ATR100 in 30-06 with the iron sights.  One thing I like is that Mossberg is one of the few still making iron sights available on some models.  One good friend from church bought a 4x4 .270 and with Federal Premium ammo shot a 3/4" group first time out.  We adjusted the scope 2 times and it hasn't been touched yet.  He took 4 deer the first year at between 120 and 400 yards and never had a miss or hiccup.  For the money seems like a good deal.

I had a ATR100 in 270 for a short time.  I mounted a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on it and did some bore lapping and tweaking here and there and it would shoot MOA all day long anywhere or anytime.  The only thing about the rifle that I couldn't live with was the lousy trigger.  It is made as a riveted together unit and I couldn't get into it to do any stoning and there isn't (at least at that time) an after market trigger available for it.  I sold it to a guy I know and he shot his first whitetail with it and just loves it.  He had never owned or shot a center fire before but if he ever shoots one with a good trigger he probably won't be able to stand the Mossy's anymore.

same with luckducker. I bought a 06 atr for a truck gun. Mine shot moa rigiht out of the box which amazed me. Trigger is terrible though and i know i could have squeezed more accuracy out of it with a 2lb trigger. I ended up giving it to my hunting partners daughter and shes kill a bunch of deer with it and loves it.
