Ruger Single 10
« on: January 19, 2012, 02:25:57 AM »
Does anyone have a Ruger Single 10? I looked at one recently and it seems like a decent revolver. Anyone have any experiece with one, good or bad? I'm not sure I like the sights. Has anyone heard if Ruger will be offering them with conventional sights?

When I first heard the announcement on them I was dead set against them. I was operating under a false assumption they had to be on the larger BH frame to hold ten rounds. I just couldn't see going to the heavier gun to add four more rounds to capacity.

I was wrong tho it is the Single Six frame and the grip on them feels really nice.

I figured I wasn't gonna like that front sight either but when I got to hold one I decided it wasn't so bad after all and if ya used it for hunting might even be a good idea. Besides you can always change it out if ya don't like it.

I've not done anything about picking up one as I sure don't need it but I'd not rule out getting one someday. For now tho I think there are other things I'd rather spend my limited funds on.

I picked one up just before Christmas.  I haven't been able to shoot it yet. I basically bought it for my back up trapline gun.  I currently use a ruger stainless bearcat.  It is kind of hard to see the sights in early daylight.  I seen the sights on the Single 10 and thought I would like it better.  Will see how it shoots when the weather warms up.

I'd prefer the standard ss or bearcat anyday. To do good shooting you've got align the edges of the front and rear sights. Every fiber optic site i've tried makes that impossible for my eyes.

Well, I went back to the gunshop and bought a Single 10. I like the way it handles. As Graybeard said, I can always change the sites if I decide I don't like them. I'm going to wait for nicer weather to try it out. I don't shoot very well with gloves. And even worse with frozen hands!

I looked at a Single 10, and it was a good looking revolver.  The cylinder was a little different though with 4 more locking notches on it.  I don't recall if it was a fluted cylinder.  I noticed on the one that I looked at that the grips had a slight contour in the middle, with the top and bottom of the grip being a little wider.  It was a good feeling combination.  I don't know if they're all stainless, but I liked the matte finish on the one I saw.  Ruger is coming out with a lot of innovative handguns lately.  I wonder when they'll come out with their version of the Judge/Governor revolver?

Yes, I really like those grips! They fit my hands very well.  The cylinder is unfluted.
