Winchester 20 guage cases
« on: April 10, 2012, 12:57:20 PM »
I haven't reloaded 20 guage for some time. I'd just buy some less expensive Winchester high speed loads for target shooting. Now I have hundreds of these empties laying around. Are they reloadable? They are plastic cases. It says SUPER SPEED XTRA 7 1/2 on shell. Are they the same as AA hulls or are they just junk I should throw away?

Are your 20 gauge hulls reloadable?  YES!

The real questions are How reloadble are they?
And how many times can you reload them?

What you have are NOT AA-hulls, neither the newer (version) of what Winchester uses nowadays for 'AA' hulls, and not the older version that are no longer made.

But your hulls should be reloadable!  If I lived near you I would ask you to give them or sell them to me before just throwing them away.

As for 'selling them,' I have no idea what others might be willing to pay.  But in a 20 gauge I strive to load 1-ounce loadings for almost everything, and cutting one of your hulls open (length-wise) to get a view of what the hull looks like inside, and looking specifically to see if the base-wad  is low or not too high will help you understand how much volume your hulls have.

Hope I said something useful.  I've been reloading shotshells for over 40years and much of what I know is from experience, not that trying to 'describe' or explain something is "easy."

Thanks for your reply. I was able to find some reloading data from Hogedan. I reloaded several boxes. I have 2 slightly different hulls. The ones that say Super Speed crimp better than the ones saying W. Maybe I'll find someone here in WI that wants them for free. We start trap shooting pretty soon so I can ask at the club.
