Crappie lures

I just picked up a couple crankbaits from Bass Pro Shops called the Crappie Maxx.  It's supposed to be good for larger crappies but looks a little large for most crappies I've seen.  Has anybody used this lure with any success?

Big Crappie can swallow big lures ,caught 2 two ponders on a 1/2 oz. spinner bait and a 3.5 ponder on a 3/8 oz. spinner bait all while bass fishing

I have caught them on 1/8th ounce slash baits while targeting Bass on ultralight gear such as those made by Rapala.  But I have yet to have more success on them as I do on 1/16th ounce Jigs.  The jigs are a lot cheaper too cause if your not snagging them on Brush your likely "fishing" instead of "catching".

I usually fish jigs, too.  The biggest crappies I've ever caught were on jigs I tied with white deer hair.  These crankbaits were just something different that I thought I'd try just for kicks.  Unlike you guys, I usually target crappies and catch an occasional bass while in the process.  It's all fun.

i have caught crappie on baits as big as 4 inch rapalas. it does seem when they are hitting anything yu can get down to them they will bite. that bein said ive always had better luck with jigs. they offer more precise depth control and handle better around cover. if yu can find crappie in more open water then that crappie max plug will prob work just fine. but i dont see it ever replaceing the time tested jig for overall crappie fishing!

I've caught several crappie on Stike King's Bitsy Minnow, in baby bass and baby shad colors. The thing about small crankbaits is, you just never know what you're gonna catch.  8)

On another note...I just picked up what is essentially a 1/8th ounce knock off of the Rapala sub walk made by I think rebel.  That bad boy ought to make for a great Crappie crank bait, at least it looks promising.  Picked up one and will be trying it out in the next week or two as the Crappie move up on the spawning beds and see if it out does a Jig.  It should be a lot of fun on a ultra light spinning set up!
