« on: March 23, 2012, 01:34:40 AM »
Well I will be using my 20 guage full choke pardner this year for turkey. That said has anyone installed sights on one. As we know they are not drilled so how and what did you install.

I use a truglo snap on fiber optic front sight on my pardner..........its just a camp gun though, not a turkey gun. It gathers a ton of light though and works great for me.

DH#1,

The only Pardner barrel I have right now is a 27.5" 12 ga with fixed mod. choke.  The hole for the front bead is drilled completely through the barrel and the base of the bead stud is slightly protruding into the bore. ???   No big deal because this barrel is scheduled for surgery and will be a shorty before I ever fire it.  I am not sure if this barrel will get a front fire sight and a rear ghost ring/peep or if I will  just install a short custom base and a red dot.  The rear sight and or base will go on the chamber swell and be soldered.  The front sight, if I install one, will be a D/T with hole(s) through the barrel into the bore but I don't think I will leave the screw end sticking into the bore. :P   IMHO, and apparently HR1871's opinion as well, a hole through the barrel at the MUZZLE end is no big deal as there is not much pressure in that section of the barrel.  A D/T through the chamber swell could be an issue either structurally or just in causing problems with hull ejection.

That protrusion is not a good thing.  On our 12 ga shorty project, we filed off the protrusion.  Next step will be reaming and tapping the muzzle for an IC RemChoke tube.  Not gonna drill and tap anything at the breech.

brewster,

are you going to do a hand ream/tap for the choke tube install?

Yes.  That's the plan.  Using 15 yr old muscle while grandpa sips a barley pop and supervises.

But we'll do two job thus.  The first for practice on the drop piece that's been cut off.  Just for practice, since practice makes perfect.
