Forearm pressure
« on: March 14, 2012, 12:57:51 AM »
Good Morning I'm new, been reading for a little while. I have a SB1 in 22 Hornet that I've had for 20 plus years. A BC 45-70 that I sent back and had a 2506 barrel fitted to. When it came back the forearm fits the 2506 barrel very tight. Lots of rearward pressure. I just bought a 308 with the brown laminated stock. The 308 has a little side to side lateral movement but mostly goes away with the forearm on. The 2506 barrel fits this frame better that the 308 but still a lot of rearward pressure on the forearm. Did some searches but couldn't find what I needed. Does the forearm need to fit that tight? And can somebody point me in the right direction for some pictures of tightening up the side to side movement?
Thanks

My BC forend was really tight as well, I took off the spacer, and sanded the forend down a little.

If your barrel wobbles in the receiver with the forearm off and the barrel locked in the receiver it needs to go back as the fitting is no good. It will probobly not shoot very well like that. As far as the forearm goes that is why myself and lots of other go with a dedicated gun and dont switch them out. You should atleast get yourself a forearm for each barrel as you can see they fit each one a little bit different if you intend to switch them out. Will fit sometime but not always.

First off, every gun is different, so you may find out some thing that works contrary to what I am saying here. I personally feel that the gun should lock up tight with the fore end off or on and the barrel should be a little wobbly with the fore end on and the action opened up. I have a different fore end for each barrel and they have been pillar bedded for each barrel. I can rest the fore end on sand bags and shoot off of them with good results.

Good Luck and Good Shooting
