200 gr Cast in .357
« on: April 16, 2012, 04:18:44 AM »
Hi fellas,

I was thinking of loading some of these Cast Performance 200 gr WLNGC for my Blackhawk and Handi Rifle in .357. Do any of you use this combo for deer? I was wondering if these are too heavy for .357.

Hey km,

I'm using their 187gr in my 6" BH over a good dose of 2400.  Your load should be fine!

I use, and prefer, the Keith style 200 gn swc from either Colorado Custom Bullets or Mt. Baldy Bullets over WW296 powder.  Are they too heavy for the 357 - nope, not at all.  I prefer this combo because it cuts a nice 'square' hole, in and out.  My 357 wears (now) a 3.5" bbl and I prefer the heavier slugs for the added penetration.  HTH

For quite a few years, I shot a 210gr. LBT bullet in IHMSA match's out of my 10'' DW,.357. Never shot a 40, but that was my fault. Shot a few 38-39's. My load was 12.5 grs. of W296, out of a Winchester manual. It is a gas checked bullet, so never had a leading problem. Used it to kill one deer, prefer a .44, but, wouldn't hesitat to use it again if I get the chance. gypsyman
