Many of you guys go a lot further back than I do. I was born in 1966 and will be 46 years old in May. It amazes me the  technology of today!!! :o :o :o 8) 8) 8)  I don't  know if you folks know it or not( I'm sure many do ) but the computer you are typing on right now is way more powerful than the one used to land the first man on the moon. When I was a kid cable TV just come out or at least we just got it. I remember my parents upgrading to a color TV. Oh and the home computer did not even exist. The first video games I ever played were on Atari and they were really lame games like tank battle and pong. You look at the video games of today and it is almost life like. I don't know how to play them though I stopped playing video games by the time I was 18 or so. I was at a buddies house about a year ago and he was playing Mortal Combat on Play station with a couple other guys and asked me if I wanted to give it a try. I have not played a video game since I was a kid but I did give it a try. Hell I could not even operate the control he gave me worth a crap and quickly gave it up. The point I'm trying to make is  technology has grown by leaps and bounds lust in my life. I bet there are a few of you guys that out there that remember when there was no TV and listened to the shadow on radio like my dad told me he did before TV. He told me that his family would gather around the radio after dinner and listen to different radio shows. Dale

Yeah, when I was a kid I listened to Sky King, Roy Rodgers, Gene Autry, and Tarzan, all on Saturday morning.  I remember The Shadow also.  Kinda marks my age don't it.  Goat   ;)

Ha Ha! Now thats what ya call a "stupid tax"! Geez! Just wait a few weeks and you'll be able to waltz right in and buy one without the hub bub. I never understood that whole camping in line thing waiting for  the newest whiz bang Apple gizmo.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

they basically put the first men on the moon with slide rules

I look at another way: They put men on the moon by focusing billions of dollars, a huge fraction of the military, leading edge science and technology, some of the greatest scientific minds of the era, enormous amounts of real estate, espionage, secrecy, thousands of research and development and testing projects, heavy theoretical effort in universities across the nation, a focused political will, an accepting public, a large fraction of the world's computers at the time, a subset of the nuclear arms race, thousands of laboratories, state of the art communications and navigation equipment, the threat of soviet and communist domination, rigorous astronaut training for a select few supremely capable individuals using a massive training academy, some slide rules, and probably a whole bunch of things I can't think of right now.

It's not like they went up in covered wagons after a trip to the local blacksmith.

And for those of us who used to use slide rules, it's a bit of an insult. You had to know what you were doing with it, and the slide rule helped add precision to what otherwise would have been laborious but entirely tractable calculations that could have been done in just a bit more time using pencil and paper alone.
