To me night sights are a joke; I would much prefer Crimson Trace Laser Grips.

The great thing about low light shooting with the CT grips is you can hold the gun against your hip and keep both eyes open to better see your target.  Why is this important?  Most incidents where a CCW is used occur in dark or low light conditions, you need every advantage possible to ensure your shot placement.

Of course, if possible, get both and practice under low light conditions with the laser and night sights.  I’d bet after a while you would rely totally on the laser.

I thought about CT but it won't work with my Milt Sparks Holster. I also don't want to rely on a laser in that it may malfunction at a critical time.

I dislike trijicon. Every duty pistol I have been issued has had them. Dust gets under the glass where they are painted white. At night they are fine. In the daytime it can be a pain in the butt, depending on lighting. BTW I haven't had one  on xd's, have had them on sigs and glocks. Sig uses same sight as xd, glocks look pretty similar.

The XS big dot doesn't have a rear tritium. But it is great for fast acquisition. Not great for precision shooting at night. Group sizes will usually drop in the day as well but not by as much as one would think. I do like it for conceal carry though. I do not have one on an xd, it's on a glock 27. For a straight up personal defense pistol it is the best tritium option I have found.

The truglo TFO are the ones I like best for a pistol that doubles as CC and target. They look a little brittle, but have held up well for me with CC. I like the hi viz daylight part of it. You can really shrink the groups as apposed to the factory white dots. I think it is just that they stand out very well so you are able to focus on the target instead of the front sight and target. Kind of reminds me of a holo sight dot. As long as you have the gun lined up right the bullet pretty well hits where the dot is. You really don't focus on the dot. It just falls where you want the bullet to go. I have the TFO on a xd45.

I am considering the XS Big Dot. I like what I saw on Youtube. I'll have to give the Truglo TFO a look. thanks

I have been using CT Laser grips on a S&W Model 60 since they became available, I have never had a malfunction or problem of any kind with them, I have since added them to several other guns. (I bought grips for three guns last fall when CT offerd a $50.00 rebate of each set bought, that was like getting one set free.)

As for holster, It doesn't make any difference what you carry in if you can't see/hit the target when the sidearm is needed.

As I said, go with both the night sights and laser if you can and find another holster to fit the gun. I'd be willing to bet if you worked with the CT grips for a while you would scrap the holster for a feed sack just so you could have the laser. ::)
