« on: March 18, 2012, 05:39:23 PM »
Hope someone can give me info on this model.  I have my eye on one.  It has 24" barrel and rifle sights.  Looks to be in really good shape.  Anything I need to know about them?

mo_bio,

The H&R Topper Buck model 162 is a 1960's era slug gun.  It did have a 12 Ga. 24" cylinder bore barrel and came from the factory with a Lyman peep sight.

That is what I thought too.  This guy says it is a model 116 and comes with straight rifle sights.  I hope to lay hands on it today and see what is up with it.

Some years of the 162  came with the peep sight some came with the fold down lyman rifled sights I think the earlier ones had peep sights .  Mine  (rifled sights 1977 vintage) likes remington sluggers 2 3/4 and  throws nearly full choke patterns with federal black cloud steel ammo with the flite control wads. it throws usable  patterns with standard shotshell loads out to 25 yards or so
This gun is a carry a lot shoot a little gun with heavy loads, But that is my style anway so I love the gun

The model 162 "Buck" also came in 20 gauge.
