A brake isnt going to protect anything....there is still a hole....if you dont have a hole your in for a big suprise when the first bullet hits it.
Tape works the best I carry a roll of tape in my hunting pack for after I shoot so I can re-tape it.

I'd rather chip a rock with the break than with my barrel......I'd rather not chip a rock at all but your not always 100% careful with your tools.
I've talked myself out of a break and porting. Now I can focus on making me a new stock and forend.
