1911 Parts Gun
« on: March 15, 2012, 01:56:15 AM »
I had many 45 autos in years past I really don't know why I traded them off.  Yesterday I traded up a shooter grade Essex framed 45.  I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but maybe by the weekend.  I really picked it up to for my CCW in the truck.  Man I forgot how much I really liked these ol 45's.

Lot to like about the 1911 platform! I have assembled a couple of 1911s on Essex frames and slides. Both good shooters. Enjoy your pistol!

Are Essex forged or cast?

William, the Essex frame is cast.  I've read pro and con on the cast frame and there are several companies still using cast frames to build their 1911's on.  I believe that the newer cast frames are much better and stronger than the earlier cast frame guns.

The question was not to start a flame--good casts are good.
I just could not remember.

Hey William,

I didn't take it as starting a flame, and I'm sorry if my post came across that way.  And I agree good casts are good.  Take care,

I agree the 1911 just feels like it was make for our hands it just feels right.  But the S&W N frame revolvers feel good too.  Some auto's and revolvers feel a tad different but i can still adapt and shoot them.
My casted frame on my new auto-ordnance army ww2 copy seems ok so far with all the rounds we have thru it.  Its made from 4140 casted steel.  I thionk by now they have the casting process down.  I think there is one foundry manufacturing all the 1911 casted frames for all the 1911 manufactures.
