Building an AR
« on: March 25, 2012, 02:38:52 PM »
I have a stripped out 80% lower that was milled out.
The Aluminum is bright and shinny.
I was talking with a friend working on the same prokect and we were thinking of painitng the inside Bright White to make it easy to see the trigger assembly and the springs not to mention being able to clean out the dirt easily.
Anyone think this is a Bad idea?
Was also thinking of laying down a coat of clear epoxy for duribility.

There shouldn't be any issues. In a worst case scenario you may have to polish up the holes for proper clearance of the pins. Why not just leave it silver or even polish it inside with compound if you want contrast though?

A few weeks ago I got a super deal on a spray can camo stag. It looked terrible. About 30 minutes of applying paint stripper and scrubbing it with a toothbrush turned it back into stock and raised the value about $400.  :D  So if you do go the paint or epoxy route it is easily reversible.

My reason to paint rather than polish was to protect the Aluminum.  Bare AL. tends to get a white powder oxide on it that would be dull.
 Thanks.
