TC Renegade after market barrel

I have a Renegade .54 cal. left hand lock, cap & ball rifle and would like to buy a .45 cal. barrel for it.  Does anyone know a barrel maker you would recommend?  I bought it in 1977 and now only shoot it at targets so I want to go to a smaller and lighter caliber.


Also, is it safe to shoot a right hand cap & ball rifle left handed? I've heard arguments back and forth about whether it was safe or not.

don't know if they're available in lefty or not but my hawken and all three of my renegades have green mountain barrels on'em and i love'em. as for shootin' lefty with a righty gun, i'm so left-handed i can't pick my nose right-handed and all my guns are righty. the old timers who used doubleguns had to shoot one barrel off-sided and some of them were even flinters. for what it's worth and have a good'en friend, bubba.

bubba.50, thats my thought on shooting opposite.  A couple of guys I know will only shoot single barrel smoothbore flinters.  Thanks for the word on Green Mountain.  I will look them up. I also know going from a .54 to .45 cal. my Renegade going to pick up some weight, but the lightest Scheutzen rifle I had was a .22 short RF that weighed 10.5 lbs. and I had a Hi Wall with a #5 barrel in .32-40 that weighed 13 lbs. so weight is not  problem, course that's been 20 years ago.  Saw a nice left hand flintlock target rifle that weighs in I believe I read 13#.  It's a recent custom made rifle.

another thought if ya don't find one ready-made. if they have the parts in stock or available track of the wolf will install a lefty plug in one for ya. their rates are pretty reasonable far as i can tell. luck and have a good'en friend, bubba.

You may wish to try sabots before you put out cash for new hardware. 165gr lead 45's are a pretty lite touch. Green Mountian barrels are very good, I have 2. Both had the front sights fall off.
GM barrels are probably the lowest priced aftermarket barrels. A one inch 45 lefty may get a little pricey.
