Blackhawk in .41 Mag, the compromise that really doesn't compromise anything at all.

I would agree that a super blackhawk 7.5 inch barrel is sure hard to beat never had any problem with recoil even with hot 300 grain loads. I have shot a buddies 5.5 inch 45 colt bisley that he thinks is the bees knees and with his hot loads kills my middle finger, and I never had that problem with my SBH. The funny thing is he wont shoot more than two 335 grain loads thru my SRH alaskan but loads the 45 bisley to a level that to me is worse than my alaskan. Its just hard to tell someone else what they are goin to like, but for me you probably cant go wrong with a super blackhawk 7.5. worst case you could always put a bisley grip on it if you think you need it. God Bless and keep your powder dry!

Well I started this thread to recommend the stock Ruger Bisley in 44 mag but I agree that the best dollar value is probably one of the many used 7.5" Super Blackhawks on the market.  These guns are often very inexpensive and will certainly get the job done.

All I have and shoot anymore are Rugers. Couple of large frame Vaqueros both 4 5/8(one a Bisley) a Bisley BH 5 1/2in and a 4in RH all 45 colt, plus a 3 screw SBH 44mag. All good guns, and shoot pretty good. Now I'll brave the slings and arrows of others and say I've never been able to shoot ANY of these (or a couple other Rugers I've owned) as well as either of the two S&W 629s I've owned. They were both 44mags. Would like to have another one...in fact thinking seriously about selling the two Vaqueros to finance a new 629..I've never shot (or even held) a Hunter model but that is one fine looking piece of equipment.

I think your comment about shooting your S&W 44s better than your Rugers is interesting because I do too -- at the range from solid position.  I think my Smiths in general are more accurate.  However, in actual game shooting I have not found that to be relevant.  It may simply be luck but under the time pressure of making a hunting shot I tend to shoot single actions  little better (especially the Bisley grip frame).  I think the N frames require a little bit more care in perfect grip and trigger control to shoot to the same point of impact.  That being said I'm sure I'd shoot them better if I gave up single actions - but that's not happening!

For the Ruger BH get a set of Hogue Mono Grips and it will turn a beast into a pussy cat. I can't believe how much better my HEAVY loaded 5 1/2" BH 45 Colt handles with the Hogue grip than the original style.

I could not agree more. I have this grip on a stock 4 3/8 inch Blackhawk in 45 Long Colt. A very economical set up. The heaviest loads are fun to shoot. The entire gun fits inside my hunting coat. I have shot deer with this set up with no tracking needed. When this pistol is not hunting, it spend its time in my glove box, ready for ANYTHING.

Count me as another fan of the Mono-grips as well.  All my Blackhawks wear em, better control and more repeatable shot placement for me.  The Bisley I had went down the road pretty quick, never felt as though I had control of the thing when I touched it off.  The recoil didn't hurt me with reg. grips, just didn't have the control I do with the Mono's.  Have found I'm more accurate with the Mono's using the same pistol as well.  DP
