Powder and load suggestions for 38 spec. wad cutter.
« on: January 26, 2004, 03:18:48 PM »
Have a "new" pre 14 that needs a wad cutter load.  I am looking for a low power target load for 148 gr hollow base wad cutters.  I have on hand:

AA #5
AA#2
Bullseye
Unique

Any suggestions for a target load?

Thanks,

Fred

The gold standard target load with that bullet for half a century was 3.2grs of Bullseye. It's still hard to beat!

Thanks,

I have been told bulleye is the powder to use as well.

Looks like the AA #5 is coming off the dillon press and bullseye is going on.

I try to use #5 whenever possible as it was a $10 per pound special that I loaded up on.

I appreciate your help.

I had an old Smith Mdl 10 that would shoot one hole groups @50' with that load. I need to load up some more of these loads and try them out in my Mdl 19 and Ruger Security Six. I use Bullseye for all my reduced loads in 9mm,  44mag, 45ACP, and 45LC. With the low charge weights required in reduced loadings is works out to be the most economical as well.

Bullseye at 2.8gr under a flush seated hollowbased wadcutter.  The standard of the world.  Used to go thru about 2000 a month while shooting PPC.
