Iditarod Question
« on: March 16, 2004, 08:49:39 AM »
I am from Indiana and I have had a lifelong obsession with the Iditarod sled dog race.  I have never been to Alaska. I dream of  someday going to hunt moose with a handgun and to someday see the start of the Iditarod.  It is hard to get much information on what has happened each day in the race here in Indiana.  The Outdoor channel has a half hour show each evening and I get info off the internet, but that is about it.  I also order the program each year.  I was just wondering if those of you from Alaska follow the Iditarod and love it as much as I do, or is it not that interesting to you when you live so close.  I would appreciate you're views on it.  I always dreamed of going to Alaska to be in the race someday, but now I have a family of my own,  and a job that would never give me enough time.  For me, it will probably be just a dream that I never accomplished.  Thanks.

Go to www.google.com  and put " Iditarod" in the Search... you'll see a ton of information and related websites...several provide up to the hour results...

examples : www.Iditarod.com
                 www.dogsled.com
maybe even www.adn.com  (Anchorage Daily New) probably some daily pictures and video clips also...

Don't wait forever to come and check out Alaska  !

Thanks for the info on websites.  I have been on Iditarod.com for a couple of hours a day since the day the race started. Does anyone here go to watch parts of the race?

I love the race.   But here in Valdez, home of the mountain snowgo, not many seem to follow the race.  In 2000, I had the pleasure of holding Swinglys lead dog when he came into Shaktoolik. In 2001 I had my picture taken with Charlie Boulding at Old Womans Cabin.  Wonderful race and I am pushing for Charlie Boulding.

Mitch Seavey of Seward won the race last night.  Charlie finished in sixth place.
