I think this whole thing really boils down to what the prosecutor will do, or won't do, it's up to him right now and he holds it all in his hands.
I have no idea really what their law is, but I know in Michigan if you believe your going to get great bodily harm done or death, you can use deadly force, if the prosecutor agrees after all the facts are in, it's over right there.  I don't know what their state has, but obviously the prosecutor had time already to make an arrest if he thought he should.   The question really is now, will the prosecutor buckle under the weight of all this pressure and do something he would not do otherwise.  Hope he is a man of conviction and does the right thing no matter what.  Ours I think would not buckle under outside pressure, he's made some good calls here on shooting unarmed people that were trying to hurt armed people. There was some public outcry, but nothing like this.  Guess we'll have to wait and find out the facts of what really happened, I don't really know.  Sure has went racial though.

Zimmerman  ,   probable   not   going   to   be  convicted   ,   his   word    against   a    dead   men    dont   talk.   If    Johnny  Cochran   were    still   around   he   would   be   all   over   this   case.  Mr.   Laytons    statement   was   right   on  .  A  wannabe   cop  trying   to   show  his   authority  .   A    provoked   black   man  letting   anger   get   the  best   of   him .  Time   &   chance   crossed   paths   .

I'm tired of having to delete crap from this thread that doesn't belong. Next time I'll delete the thread.

None of you (us) knows one iota of info on this and we're sure not getting the full story. Let the legal system do its job and sort out the facts. No one on this site is capable of deciding the right or wrong of the shooting.

My comment was that at the time neither knew anything about the other----least wise that is what I said.

Williamlayton, I apologize.  My comment came across more belligerent than intended.  At this point, I believe that we still don't really know anything, other than what the media and antagonists are throwing out there.

So if you found yourself walking through a neighborhood where you didn't "fit in" and one of the armed locals started following you while talking on the phone about how "you guys always get away" how many of you would try to defend yourself? Should what you are wearing determine if you have the right to do so? Should the things you have said online matter?
Secondly, Is it self defense if you arm yourself, and leave the safety of your own home to chase a guy who has done nothing to you and that the cop have told you to leave alone?

We have neighborhood watch  here in our small hamlet.  Why ?  Because we have an excellent park with street lights on one side, a pool, baseball field, basketball court, kid's toys and a picnic shelter with one small bulb & several picnic tables, plus We believe in freedom..with responsible behavior. Larger communities surrounding us were putting enough pressure on their unruly elements, so some were migrating to our village and park on summer evenings.
   I am basically a co-captain and by now, 3 seasons later.. it is known we have a neighborhood watch, so we do not have to patrol regularly. We set up the watch with certain rules, some self-imposed;

  1) We have baseball caps with a large, reflective NW on the front, so all should know who they are dealing with.
  2) Although I have a CCW, I never go armed..neighborhood watch should not need it.
  3) The only 'weapons' I have are a walkingh staff with a forged, big horn sheep head on top and a cell phone.
  4) We rarely patrol alone, usually have another along for witness and  cooperative effort, if necessary.
  5) Avoid confrontation..we are WATCH dogs .. not ATTACK dogs.
  6) For simple abuses, such as in the park after dusk..we may remind people of the rules.
  7) For serious crimes such as pot/drug selling, we simply stay our distance and call the sheriff or state police.
We facilitated a couple arrests this way and that helped greatly to ameliorate the noxious influx.

Of course, the park is not the only thing we observe, and now, 3 seasons later, we no longer have suspicious,
unidentified   vehicles in the parking area around the park during the dark of night.  Our Neighborhood watch has been a
positive development in every case.  Ours is a quiet hamlet..has been for 200 years and that's the way the overwhelming
      majority like it.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Neighborhood watches are great, I am in favor of them.
Just don't let the Western in you get outta hand.
Like perfect storms, this is an example for all of US to learn from and how things can go wrong in a second. Folks we have responcibilities,--lets be responcible.
