Tumbling Projectiles

On occasion get huge lots of jacketed bullets.  Sometimes they are free and sometimes I pay 70 cents a pound.  The ones I bought today are a little tarnished.  They are all mixed together so I have to sort them.  The last batch was nearly all 30 Mauser pistol bullets.  Any reason not to tumble them?

None at all.  I've tumbled many, many left from my Dad's stuff years ago.  Sometimes the box deteriorates and leaves residue.  The tumbler works fine.

Don't the manufacturers tumble them as the last step?  I've seen tumbling media residue in some of my Hornady hollow points.

No reason you can't tumble them other than because of their weight they tend to lay on the bottom of the bowl and not really clean up well.  I use an ultrasonic cleaner with much better results and they're actually cheaper to run than a tumbler full of media.

If you want immediate results, you might slosh a few around in a cup of vinegar and salt, and see if that does anything.
Don't know about straight Cu, but it works on my brass. I am too impatient to wait on a tumbler.

I once got a half a 5 gallon pail of 147 grain pulled .30 cal bullets. they were pretty rough looking. Most were even green. I put them in the big dillon with a good dose of brasso and let it run overnight in two batches and came out in the morning to bullets that looked like new. Sure wish i could find another bunch of them. Made for some cheap shooting in my ar10 and the cetme i had back then
