Isn't high school prom supposed to be at the school?
« on: March 30, 2012, 03:42:08 AM »
My daughter is going to her high school prom, and it's not even in the same city has her school. It's in a downtown facility about thirty miles away. This is a high crime area with expensive event fees, so I'm wondering what ninkompoop came up with this idea. The school itself has a huge areas suitable for proms. Have you seen this? Is it a new trend?

My take on it is that whoever is organizing it has almost no control from the school or the school system, and that the site was probably selected so it would be more exclusive to certain cliques.

No proms have been held in my area schools for many years. Don't really know the real reason why except the gym wouldn't be able to be used for a few days.  Aside from no PE classes , there are after school sports such as volleyball activities.

40 some years ago, our prom was held aboard the Belle of Louisville, an old stern wheel riverboat.  Have heard of only a few proms being held at school.  What fun would that be?  Nobody could get drunk and killed in a car crash or any of the other great things that take place at a prom.

I've never heard of one being held at the school.  When I was in school they changed the policy so they could no longer be held in hotel ballrooms because it made it too easy for drinking and other bad things to happen in the adjoining rooms.  So now they are held in area country clubs and wedding type facilities.  It takes a breathalyzer to get in, or at least it used to.
