Colt Det. Special repair query
« on: June 19, 2013, 03:05:11 AM »
Traded a broken chipper/shredder for a broken Cold Det. Special, newer model, blued, shrouded ejector rod.  Cylinder just spins around, rough trigger pull.  Not very well treated, but not total loss.  Looking for good repair person in/near Houston; at least in TX.

Thanks.
Tom

I'd get "The Colt Double Action Revolvers, A Shop Manual, Vol. I & II" by Jerry Kuhnhausen.  I have found it invaluable in diagnosing and repair of DA Colts in my collection.

send it to colt and have it redone with original parts. There starting to be almost collectors items and probably worth putting back to stock.

Took it apart last nite.   The bolt/cylinder catch tip is broken off and won't engage the cylinder.  The trigger pin is broken off flush where it threads into the frame.

I could replace the bolt, when I can find a part [Numrich sold out].  I don't have the tools to remove the threaded piece of the trigger pin stuck in the frame.

Not excited about sending the gun up to CT for long delay repair.  Not even sure Colt still repairs old revolvers.

Thanks.

like s.a. said -call briley's.
i don't know about nowdays,
but at one point there was
pretty much nothing that
briley's couldn't fix. if it's
pretty rode hard lookin',
they may not mess with it.
you'd just have to check.
a d-special, or cobra, or agent
should be worth fixing.
