I just received one of my "bucket list" guns, a 19-4
« on: December 20, 2010, 10:06:19 PM »
My buddy "got me" Sunday,

He knows I've been looking for a model 19 for a while now. The first handgun I bought when I turned 21 was a 6" 19 with target grips, hammer, trigger. I ended up trading it off foolishly after a couple of years. I started looking for a nice one a few years ago. It's been really hard to find a nice, clean one, that wasn't stupidly over priced. Most have been beat to heck-and-gone and still over priced.

We stopped by Cabela's a couple weeks ago and they had one in the case in the gun library, but we couldn't get anyone to wait on us to see it. We even went and had lunch and came back, and still couldn't get anyone to wait on us. So we left, and I figured that one just wasn't meant to be mine. He tells me later that it was "gone" when he went back.

So he tells me he'll bring out his 19 on Sunday for me to shoot again. His is nice, but a 4". He shows up and hands me a pistol case and says "Here". I open it and am a bit confused. It's a 6", I'm thinking, "huh, what the heck". Then he says he bought this one for me, and it's mine.

!

I'm just about completely speechless, which is surprising for me, 'cause I usually have something to say about all the time.

Thanks again Duane, I'm still pretty speechless.

I'll post pictures of it when I get the chance. It's a really clean -4. He's been through it and says it appears unfired. No carbon anywhere. Had the sideplate off (he's been to S&W armorers school) and says it's immaculate. Nice gun, pinned barrel (fine by me), recessed cylinder. Bluing is almost perfect. Looks like it was stored in a holster, no box. Don't care about the box.

I'm gonna keep this one forever. May even stipulate that it's buried with me...

That is one heckuva buddy! Enjoy the gun and sharing shooting with your friend. Just reading the story brought a big smile to my face, thanks.

I have a 4" 19-3 I bought new in '76. It'll be the last gun I part with. Enjoy!

Here's a pic.

It's definitely been fired now. We put 100 rds through it Sunday. Gotta round up my 357 brass and load some more for this Sunday.

This follows a 29-2 I bought earlier this year.

Now I only have one more pistol on my "bucket list", a nice series 70 Gold Cup Colt 1911 that's not been molested or abused.

I'm not sure he can afford the one he has now...

He may be open to trades, but I'm not sure I want to ask him.

Bought a used 19-4 4" two years ago from a guy at work.  Can't figure out the year of mfg however.  It has some surface wear on the left side below the cylinder but I bought it for a shooter anyway.  Excellent trigger pull, both single and double action.  I really like it and it carries well in my Bianchi 5BHL holster I bought for it.  Nice
accurate revolver and take it on road trips to visit our daughter.  Don't think I'll get rid of this one ever.  I got it
super, super, cheap cause the guy's wife wanted it out of the house.  Also bought a nice post 1964 Model 94 in
.32 Special from him.  I added that one to my other three .32 Win Specials.  Shot a doe with it in 2009 using the HDY FTX gummie tips.  It was an 80 yard bang flop.

I just got a 19-4 blued 4 inch.  It was my father in laws, and he passed and left it to me.  Pachmayer presentation grips and a red dot scope on it.  I removed the scope and low and behold no rear sight.  I am in the process of trying to find one.  OH I also got a ruger single six 22/22mag still original no transfer bar.
