T/C needs to bring it back !!!
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:20:16 AM »
Many moons ago I got away from the contenders and went to all Encores.  Why??  I wanted bigger and better.  Now that my age is catching up with me, I have found myself going back to the contenders.  I recently acquired a contender 12" hunter in 357 maximum.  Thanks to some folks from this forum, I was able to get some brass and load some rounds to try.  All I can say is wow !!!  This is most definately a long range set-up with absolutely NO RECOIL!! A groundhog at 150 yards and I watched the impact.  I am again hooked on these things.  I think T/C should make another run at this caliber in both pistol and carbine set-up.  I know I would definately get a few more.   ;D

You can always get a barrel made up in .357 max, and new brass is available.  Bout all you can ask for.  If .357 Max was going to become a popular cartridge it would have done so already.  Instead of going max people just go with 41, 44, 454, 460, 500...

I have the 357 max in both Contender and Ruger revolver. I buy new brass when I find it. Love the round with both jacket and cast loads. Have saw several barrels for sale at gunshows over the years. As said before custom barrel makers will make you anything you want.

Can you rechamber a 357Mag barrel to 357Max? I don't know if the twist rates are the same though.
Me? I'll keep my 357 Herrett barrel.

It's an easy rechamber but a quick loss in the pocket book.  Cost of having it done and value of the barrel....kinda like burning $20s IMHO.  I see max barrels all the time.  Saw a 14" somewhere in the last few weeks.

I have the contender, ruger, and DW.  They are all super in their own right.
