I guess it's time to move around!!!
« on: February 08, 2004, 04:20:03 AM »
I've been honing my skills at the same places every year.  I guess its time to move to other places and take my experience/knowledge with me.  While I really haven't fished the larger places near or around me I have been invited to fish Lake Champlain which is 20 minutes from my place in Vermont.  I heard that last years tornie up there they caught a record number of bass and that everyone had fish.  Does anyone have any advise for fishing there??  I'm a little nervious going there.   BigBill

Ever get nervious about going to a new place??

Gee BigBIll - what a lucky person you are. 20 Minutes to go someplace like that and having many places close to you to fish. I live in Idaho - although there are many places to fish - closet is 5 minutes - longest is 8 hours. I do not know of any spot within that distance that I have not gone. It is really fun to fish a new spot. Just make sure you know the rules/laws that govern that particular water - and go for it. Heck - you may find fishing new areas so great - you might want to venture out some place 30 minutes from your residence. You may get skunked too - but that is why they call it fishing and not "catching".
GO FOR IT.

Coyote 2 sorry I didn't memtion that I live in CT. but my other place is in Vermont nearby Lake Dunmore and lake Champlain but I'm a few minutes from the White River too which has excellent trout fishing too. The fact is I haven't fished the good bass fishing lakes near me yet in CT. I have just in local ponds which some are full of bass that no one hardley fishes some of them.  I have honed my bass fishing skills for quite a few years now I guess its time to move on and try other places. My neighbor in Vermont invited me to fish with him this summer since we are so close to lake champlain.  Your right this is what I'm saying I'm so into fishing my small places that I'm good at doing I'm nervious to venture out to other places I've done so good locally in Ct. But I have heard about fishing for smallies up there is great too. I seen on TV the Hibbon father and son pro's prefishing champlain with gambler ACE senko type baits killing smallies last week(it was taped last summer). In a way I want to venture out now but I know I'm going into waters unknown to me. I guess thats good to see what patterns and presentations really work and if my success continues.  While all these baits do really work some do excell more than others at certain times but it will be interesting to see what else works up there.  I know that north(Ct) to south(Fla) that success with certain baits do change maybe I'm close enough to were it won't from Ct. to Vt. time will tell for sure.                                        BigBill

I have to admit I haven't even fished the larger lakes in Ct. yet too I do my own bass fishing circut of small places which ahve been really awesome at times.  One place is loaded with big bass 10lbs + while I landed only one I have had many hooked but they got off.  This is the challange now to move venture out and  learn each body of water and how to fish it.

I love to fish those smaller places that most just drive by they look like little swamps and are loaded with bass just waiting for us to throw a line in to catch them.   The other place i fish with 10lb bass there because most guys don't use the right bait.  The bigger bass don't eat minnows or nightcrawlers they actually eat sunfish the smaller stuff is just a snack to them.  Another place i fish is hidden in the woods and no one knows about it.  I had caught a sunfish on the new rebel bumble bee lure and was reeling it in and had a big largemouth chase it in. My mistake was to get the sunnie out of the water then I realized what I did wrong the bass was coming into eat it I should of stopped reeling it in.  But these fish are very spooky too from people not going there. They know when were there too.  I was told by another pro on another forum to wear hunting camo when I go back there because if I can see them they can see me.  I'm planning on going there in the springtime with BassProShops 7 1/4" stick o worms these worms are the "big bites" of all worms there 1/2" in diameter and a meal for sure.  I'm willing to bet there is a new state record in there for sure since its only 12lbs 14ozs.           BigBill
