Saw this in Shotgun News.  This is all there is on the website right now.  Maybe more info will come after the Shot Show:

So what do you think about this?

Think they'll make that in a 4" version. Sure looks like an argument stopper.

This looks like an interesting derivation of the 1911 platform.  It will be interesting to see where it goes.  If they offer a more basic model, to get it into the hands of shooters of average means, it will go a long way toward popularizing the new cartridge.

well i found the compny's web site www.guncrafterindustries.com.  I didn't see when it will be available but then i didn't really look after seeing the suggested retail price of $2895.00.  Sounds like its just a little overpriced.  If I had three grand to buy a gun it wouldn't be that one.

It's a great niche for them. I think the 1911 market is something like the SUV market: they can hardly make them fancy enough to turn people away from them.  My opinion is that up to about $1500 it's a 'you get what you paid for' deal with the better quality 1911s, beyond that, it's just pouring money down the drain because there's no extra value for the money.

you're right on the mark cknight, they price it less than a desert eagle and life at magnum research would get real difficult.  They could have used this pistol to steal both the eagle/sw .500 crowed and the 1911 guys.  Not intelligent on guncrafter's part to have it priced so high.

I think that price includes 200 rounds of ammo. That's probably an $800 value right there, LOL!

Too bad they didn't make it for the 50AE. I doubt there is that much difference in ballistics, and having a proven source of brass and ammo would make it more marketable.

If this takes off, Glock will probably introduce a 50 GAP double stack for small hands that still can't use it  :-D  :-D

interesting,

I would really like to see some specs on the ammo though.

I suspect that with the lack of case volume, the real world performance will be less than spectacular.

IIRC, there is (was??) a .50AE chambered 1911 pattern pistol on the market.  I believe that the Coonan is chambered in .50AE.

I could be wrong though

The LAR Grizzly was chambered for the .50AE.  I grew up where the Coonans where made, and haven't seen one for many years aside from some of the early models.  Never saw one in a .50AE.  I think Coonan was pretty well a dead horse when that cartridge came into use. Anyone ever see a Coonan in .50AE?  That would certainly be a collectors item!

This piece was designed by Victor Tibbets and Alex Zimmermann. It is being built by Vic. Vic was the head smith for Wilson Combat for years. My info says that it is a 300gr at 850. But don't hold me to that.
