Looks like a hate crime. No wait, he was a white guy walking in a major city at night. He deserved it, according to the current climate of the US justice system.

He wasn't helped by anyone because no one was there to HELP him!
The laughter  was more than likely comming from other animals like the ones that were in the herd that attacked him.
