I have never gone up to the 175 gr, 160 shoot well in my mod 7 but 150 nosler ballistic tips just shoot excellent groups. On deer I haven't killed one over 200 yrds yet that is about the longest shot I can take around my area in Pa. I have killed 2 does and 1 buck with it. Right now it's on lone to my son who wants to use it for a pig hunt. The only experience I have with rem bullets is in 308 cal, so I'm not sure on the expansion, it sounds like it may be more ment for a 7mm mag  or 280 velocity, That is a long bullet to get in the my mod seven magazine area if it was crimped on the cantalure.

I've been doing a lot of fine tuning on my 7mm-08 Mountain rifle lately and shooting the 140gr Accubonds so no help to you there...  But that bullet and that velocity should get you plenty of expansion for our whitetails, shouldn't be a problem.  You could always do the wet phonebook trick.

That's a big bullet for the 7mm-08 . I've shot several Deer with the Speer 145 , and they don't get any deader . The 7mm-08 wasn't designed with 175 Gr. bullets in mind , you don't need a 175 for Deer ! JMHO . That 28" barrel ought to launch whatever you shoot about as fast as can be . What are you using for powder ?

That is what I was thinking also... I would be into a 30 caliber if wanting to throw a slug above 160gr.

Hoop, Have shots lots of them in my 7x57's and they are great. Have shot Deer, black bear and would use one on an Elk no problem. I started using them cause I could get them bulk for about $7/hundred about 10 years ago and still have a bunch) and were much more accurate than the 150 CL's. The are a 2 dia bullet so pressures are kept down compared to say a 175 Horn/X-ect. Load them up and have at it!-Muddy

The 175 grain 7mm Rem Mag CL clocks at 2,860 FPS so Remington sure seems to think they will do just fine.  Millions of deer killed by CLs can't all be wrong..

The 7X57 was made for heavy bullets , with it's long neck , and gentle taper . Lance , you'll get no argument from me on the effectivness of the Rem. Core-Lokt bullet , it's been killing stuff forever !

sorry for the late reply.  Yes, he was talking about a 7mm-08 load. what I pointed out is that the same bullet is used a a higher velocity in the factory 7mm magnum load so his velocities should not be an issue.
