Tube attachment
« on: April 02, 2012, 05:29:02 PM »
The other day my almost new  octagon barrel 22 fell from the gun rack in my hunting rig and broke the metal band that holds the end of the magazine tube to the barrel. Was wondering how hard is to replace. Will it slip over the tube or do you have to remove the tube? Was debating calling Henry for the part vs shipping the gun to them vs getting a local gunsmith to fix it.

I'd call Henry.

The mag tube hanger/band  broke on the Frontier I bought used, when I was tapping out/changing the front sight blade.

When I called Henry to order/buy a replacement, telling them my bad - they simply sent me a new hanger, gratis.

There is a small locator pin that hold the mag tube in the ring, so it doesn't slide forward when the inner mag tube is withdrawn for loading.

Remove the forend barrel band, so things can move around a bit during the repair/replacement - there's no need to remove the mag tube or forend.

Remove the pin, then the ring from the old mag tube - then tap/drive out the remnants of the hanger's male dovetail from the barrel slot.

Slide the new hanger onto the mag tube, index the small pin hole in the hanger with the hole/notch atop the mag tube & re-install the pin to secure the hanger to the mag tube.

Move the mag tube/hanger ensemble a bit to one side, so the hanger will enter the barrel dovetail, and tap it home/center.
Retighten forend bbl band, etc. - and you should be good to go.
