Graco Recoil Reducer
« on: April 02, 2004, 12:22:46 PM »
Glock1, I should have started a new thread rather than tagging my question onto yours.

What I am wondering is how much felt recoil is reduced by such a device as the Graco? I would like to be able to shoot my 378 Weatherby without using the brake (even though it works very well) only so that it is not necessary to use hearing protection for the occasional shot, such as in a stalking/hunting situation. If I am hunting from a blind there is no worry about wearing muffs and using the muzzle brake, but I would like to have the option of shooting without the brake.

You fellows who shoot the 50 BMG etc., must use something more than a brake, don't you? What's the best recoil absorbing pad system?

Norm,

I have a .378 Weatherby Mark V Deluxe without a brake.  It never had one and all I did to help with the recoil is to install a new Decelerator recoil pad along with a C&H Research Mercury Recoil Reducer.  Now it is no worse than shooting my .338 Win. Mag. Ruger M77(older tang safety model).  The best part of adding the mercury reducer is it helped balance out the rifle.  Also, the recoil reducer costs way less than any brake.  Lawdog

oso45-70,

Go to http://www.mercuryrecoil.com/index.htm#top and their site has all the information you will need.  The insert just drops right in the stock bolt hole of most rifles.  Sometimes the hole needs to be enlarged a tad but make sure you follow the instructions that come with every insert and you shouldn't have any problem.  Lawdog
