Top 5 Pellets in an S400/410 in .22

I am going to get a sampler pack but also want to have a few full tins of pellets that will have a good chance of shooting accurately. I already have 5.52 exacts and a handful of CPs. FTS? Kodiaks? Trophys? ??

For hunting use you can't go wrong with Beeman Crow Magnums.  They seem to shoot well in any air gun of any caliber they make it for.  For target/plinking use I use a good wad cutter/target type pellet such as the Beeman H&N Match.  These are really the only two pellets I use.  Lawdog

I've used only JSB Exacts and Beeman Kodiaks in my 410E.  I feel Kodiaks are probably best because of slightly better energy and ballistic coefficient.  I personally don't see any reason why you'd need a samplier pack.  I'd just buy those two and forget it.

Pellets for an S410

Not to dispute lawdogs suggestion of using the crow mag pellets but if your talking about using them in an AA S410 multi shot you might want to rethink that.  There's some merit to using only dome style pellets in AGs
with rotary magazines. Seems that some wadcutters and HPs can damage the breech seal during the loading process. I don't believe its too much of a hassle to change this seal ( O-ring ?) but just thought I'd give you a heads up.

I missed the s410 part..  You are exactly right..  Domes only in the 410 models with the rotary magazine.

A few weeks ago i considered buying a S410(thumbhole stock version) and I was told the same thing by the guy selling it.  Now after reading your post I decided to check this out with AirArms and see what they said.  Here is the reply I got by e-mail;

Yahoo e-mail printed Thu, 29 Jan 2004 11:06:37 , page 1 From: "air-arms" <general@air-arms.co.uk> To: "Gary L. Conity" <lawdog_gary@yahoo.com> Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2004 14:17:03 -0000 Subject: Re: Pellet Comparability We have tried the pellets you suggest, Beeman Crow Magnum and H & N, in our rifle and don't have a problem fitting them into the magazine or fireing them thru our S410 rifle. Of course you will not get the best results using these pellets as the rifle has been set up and tested on the AIRARMS pellets.

Of course they use their own pellets and recommend their use.  This is to be expected.  The only reason I didn't buy the rifle was the guy and I couldn't come to an agreement on the price.  We were about $200.00 apart in price for the total outfit(rifle, scope and everything).  Lawdog

I have two rifle that use magazines, A Beeman Super 12 in .20(wife's) and my Rapid 12/250 and both feed flawlessly with wad cutter and hollow point pellets.  Also in checking the owners manuals of my daughters old Gamo(model 880) it says to get best results use Gamo pellets.  The manual for the RWS 350 says basically the same to use RWS pellets.  I would be willing to bet that Beeman, Crosman, AirArms and every other manufacture of both air guns and pellets recommend the use of their own pellets.  This does not mean that different pellets from different manufactures won't work just as well.  I still say that in my opinion the best hunting pellet is the Crow Magnum.  It opens even at lower velocities and penetrates very well on even larger game to give quick kills.  Just like centerfire big game bullets.  Lawdog
