Trapping Rabbits.

Anyone have any tips they would like to share. Maybe on baiting, types of traps, and techniques?

Cut apples for bait, smear some on outside. A wire mesh backed trap the rabbit can see thru will help.Place your traps in good locations. Good luck.

I have a rabbit/squirrel combo.  for rabbits it has a dropdown door with a cord up to a dowel which is balanced on an upright with a cord on the other end down to a trigger which is in a hole in the box. put a piece of apple on the trigger and the rabbit dislodges the trigger which goes up thru the hole and releases the door.
for squirrels, unlatch the top of the box and insert a rat trap which is held down with one screw. bait with peanut butter and hang on a tree.
I hope this is easy to understand, it confused me.

this is a homemade wooden box with the top/front hinged and a screen door latch to keep it shut.

Best deal for rabbits are body grippers set in their trails.

yes or snares. are you wanting your bunnies alive or dead?often trapped or snared buns end up in a predators belly round here tho before you can check trap in the morning.

under bird feeders use bird seed    apples or a half ear of cob corn    pickle jucie (dill)  sprinkled in the trap   peanuts in the shell in the winter sumac or apple tree twigs   i have never tried them but have been told banna peels will work   with a new wood box trap put a rabbit in it for 3 or 4 days and feed the rabbit apples and corn.

Right now my garden is protected by 5 inch body grips. Them little buggers munch any thing new coming up that isn't wrapped in chicken wire.  I did have to move the trigger closer to center as one rabbit was hip caught. If I'm setting cages I use apple for bait when it's cold enough to freeze, I use some salt on the apple and it seems to work.

Squirrels are an easier problem to handle.
I use a smaller cage trap, and bait with a half a bagel smothered in crunchy peanut butter. One year when they were extremely numerous,I took 66 off of my deck.
Apple slices with peanut butter and a few sunflower seeds or nuts ,stuck in the peanut butter also does a good job.

Had and elderly nieghbor who trapped squirrels all summer in a small cage trap. He had one black walnut in that trap and the funny part was he used the same nut all summer. I guess once the squirrels got caught they spent all their time trying to figure how to get out and never even chewed the nut.
