Id think twice about doing that. First its stealing plain and simple and also there is no fusing on your home for your phone line power supply. Overload it or have a bad light and you could easily cause a fire.

Yeah, a fire would be an even brighter lighting source.

If it was subject to overloading, would it not also burn out phones, fax machines, etc. and cause fires?

That seems like a lot of trouble to go through for an emergency light source.

not nessisarily. It would depend on how much current there was flowing. I would guess that lights would use alot more then a phone. Basicaly the power in a phone line is to power your ringer and it doesnt stay on for hours and doesnt take much amperage when it is ringing. Powering lights is something that tiny wire wasnt designed to do.
