.22 Mag TC Barrel
« on: March 21, 2012, 08:20:13 AM »
How many of you have a TC carbine setup with either a 23" or 16+" .22 mag barrel? Also what is accuracy like and with what particular type of ammunition?

I have a 17" MGM .22WRM (they mark them ".22 Magnum") custom barrel on my G2.

With the WW 40 gr. HPs it will shoot just around 1" three shot groups all day (I don't shoot 5 shot groups in a single shot rifle used for hunting).  The Remington Premium "green tip" 30 grs. do a little better but not enough to be worth the cost.  I use a Nikon 4X fixed power scope; carry the rifle in my backpack.

Since in the area I hunt we are now required to use non-lead bullets for even non-game species, I have to re-sight it in with the WW 28 gr tin core/copper jacket bullets.  Don't know what that will do to accuracy; have heard it is not good with some rifles.

I've got a Super 16" bull Custom Shop in 22WRFM (as it's marked) that shoots excellent with the cheap 40gr CCI JHPs from Walmart.  Shot squirrels in the eyes at 40 yards with it fairly consistently and is probably my favorite barrel for my Contender.
Can't hardly wait on deer season and the 2016 Presidential Elections...

I've had a factory S-16 22M for many years and love it.  Mine is set up where I can use it as a pistol or carbine with only the switch of stock/grip and lots of times use the Choate folding model so I don't even have to make that switch.  Also use a 10" pistol barrel.  Somebody forgot to tell both of these barrels about 22mags being inheritly inaccurate.  The 10" shoots great and the 16 is a one hole'r out about 70 yards or so.  Both love the Win Super X JHP X22MH in the silver box.  The little 16", from a rifle shooting position is a little(make that a lot)hard to hold steady but it flat puts'm where you got it pointed.  I use it quite a lot to turkey hunt....plant my rear end up against the base of a big oak, pull my knees up to my chest and firmly plant the butt of the handgun grip against my chest while resting my forend hand or elbow on a knee....works for me.  I have it equipped with a 4X rifle scope mounted in see through mounts(more for the highth than the see thru) and this position puts the scope right-on for eye relief.  Reccomend them highly 8) .
