Holy devalued dollar!
« on: January 21, 2004, 01:27:04 PM »
'Just got my latest Cabelas Shooting catalog.  The Italian made guns are going through the roof!  $1,099 for a '73, $999.99 for a '66, $1,099.99 for a Henry!
I gave $400 for my Henry (that was 14 yrs ago), and $600, just a few years ago, for my '66s.  At this rate, domestic makers will rule.

For a long time the strength of the dollar has increased prices of our exports and decreased prices of other's imports - thus the "reign" of the European copies.  However, they still are set up to make them and esentially no one here is.  For a while, anyway, we'll have to pay the higher dollar cost, at least until someone here gets tooled up to make them.

I suspect some measure of the huge price increases are related to Italy going over to the use of the Euro as thier new standard exchange media. Seems like I saw an article recently about the sudden inflation there after they dropped the use of the Lira!?!?!
