Rainier Ballistics + Glock = ?
« on: May 02, 2012, 07:38:54 AM »
Are the Rainier Ballistics plated bullets a no-no for Glocks?  I have heard time and again that lead bullets are not to be reloaded for Glocks with factory barrels, but what about the plated bullets?

Plated bullets are fine for Glocks. I have put around 6k of the Berry's plated through 9mm and . 45 Glocks. Although I don't encourage anyone to do it, I am running cast bullets through my mdl 35 factory barrel. I have aftermarket barrels in 9/.40/,45 that I have used for years with lead. After seeing so many of the guys at USPSA matches running lead in their factory barrels, I decided to give it a try. It requires a different cleaning regiment, but it's worth it for me with the savings on reloading components. I shoot between 100-200 rds in a match with minimal leading. Still don't recommend this for anyone. The Glock folks say it's a NO NO! Your barrel may not handle lead at all. The plated bullets should not be a problem.

They are ok to shoot through glock barrel just dn't push them past 1000fps. I've try'd driving them at 1180fps and they are key holing at about 10 where if I drive them at about 950-100 they shoot just fine. I ended up getting a lone wolf barrel and I can shoot them at 1180 with no probs. The plated bullet companys don't reccomend shooting their bullets faster then 1200fps. I did all the tests I have done with a glock 20 shooting 180gr. berry and rainer plated bullets. Hope this helps.

It's generally accepted that lead bullet data is used for plated as well.

like savage said plated and even lead bullets work fine in glocks. You arent going to get away with shooting alot of soft lead bullets but then i dont know to many autoloaders of any kind that shooot soft bullets accurately anyway

I've fired 10's of 1,000's of Berry's plated bullets through my 45 ACP Glock pistols.  Lead bullets with a BHN between 12 and 18 are, also, acceptable to use.  You've just got to watch the barrel more frequently for signs of lead buildup and be ready to brush that barrel out if it starts to lead up on ya.  (Mine never have; but, then again, I know what I'm doing with lead.)
