.410 to 45 Colt question

 Hi everyone...still learning and Thanks for this forum and your responses.
 If I take a standard .410 full choke barrel off a NP serial number shotgun. Hone (ream) it to modified. Can I shoot .45 Colt with no problem? Anything more I would need to do...any tricks? I have either a NH SB2 (started life as a 270/12)or the NP shotgun frame to build on. Which would be the best reciever? My next question would be what type sights could I use?
 Sorry to bother with maybe so simple of questions. But I am taking baby steps and I am on the first step

410 barrel has no rifling... so you'd be better off jus throw'n a bullet at what ever your shoot'n at !!
besides, asa little advise......don't go there !!! for many reasons.  safety and safety are tha 2
main reasons.  and ther are many others like safety and then......accuracy.

NO! The 45 colt is larger diameter than 410,... takes a special barrel that  Is 45lc. diameter for the 410-45lc.  rig...Think about it, always hunt up the specs before trying something like this..

U kin shoot 2 1/2 410's outen of a 45-70, though won't work very good for the shotshells because the rifling 'll blow the pattern..

If you want to shoot a single projectile out of your 410 I would buy the Brenneke attached wad slugs.  I have shot these out of a H&R 410 and they are minute of deer accurate to 65 yards.  The only SAFE way I know to shoot a 45 Colt in a 410 is to buy a gun with a barrel that is stamped (by the manufacturer) "45 Colt/410" on the side.

Is it the shotcup being spun by the rifling that gives the donut effect?  Anybody fire 45-70 shells with shot, old-school, without the plastic shotcup?

Had an uncle back in the 1950's that used to kill squirrels with an old Springfield trapdoor :) , bought from a gentleman needing buss fare outa these hills for 10$ I think , mighta bin less...This was pre-plastic shotcup days...I don't think his shots were ever over 15 yds...I have no idea what the non shot cup loads would do to your rifling though.. :-\

It doesn't hurt the rifling any, might lead it some.  It's pretty useless past 6 foot though and already donuts by that time.  I did some testing earlier this year using the Speer Shot capsules in my .45 LC Classic Carbine and it was pretty stinky by 6'.  With my black hawk (shorter rifling, so less spin?) I can get out to about 10 foot with minor donuting.  I did see a version of a shotcup with a droge (looks like a woman's product) that they use to shoot shot from Forsythe rifled firearms.  I have been thinking about trying something similar with the .45-70 and a tail with a light load using steel shot cups for a .410 to see if I can get the droge to stop the spin somewhat.  If it works, might make it worth packing a few along.  Might even be able to recover the droge and reuse it.  8)

Yes, the key spin is imparted by the shotcup spinning in the rifling. Use old school card and fiber wads and it will diminish the effect but the outer part of the shot column will still be spun to some extent by the rifling. At best you might expect a hot core with blown fliers at the outside. In a 1 1/8th oz 12 ga target load, that might be okay. But with a 1/2 oz 410 load, your lukewarm core is 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz. I suppose that might suffice for snakes. But you can buy shot caps for your 45 colt anyway....
