XS Ghost sight
« on: April 14, 2012, 06:20:07 PM »
Have you put an XS Ghost sight on your Contender or Encore? If so, what did you choose for a front sight? Happy with it?
I have an Encore / 12" 44 mag barrel / XS Ghost low weaver mount sight.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.
For the patridge sight....... did you have to modify it, as in grind off the dovetail slot mass on bottom, to get it to fit into the ramped slot of the front sight base, once the roll pin is pushed out and the blade sight removed?
I already have an XS ghost sight for the rear.......was tossing the idea around about getting a Skinner with the hopes on NOT having to replace the original TC front, but, it looks like I may have to replace the front, as in a taller sight, for either of them...........
What I would really like would be to replace the roll pin / blade sight, and replace it with a tritium blade. A peep for the rear with a tritium front dot would be the cats meow for my needs.
Has any done a mod like this to their Encore sight? Can a guy buy the trituim paint somewhere? Don't really want one of those light gathering rods for a front sight.......too large a dot, too, delicate.

Sorry I cannot say as my leveractions have not had roll pins, I did not have to remove any material from the frt. sight when installing but I have read many times that people have to. I do not own any TC barrels with sights.

OK, thanks for the reply.
Man.........if I were to be paid by the hour for all of the time I have spent researching a *new* front sight for the Encore.........well.......I'd be able to buy another Encore, lol.

Seems my options for a new / taller front sight are...........
1] keep the original TC ramp, drift out the roll pin, fabricate a new / taller blade, perhaps from silver? and replace in the ramp. Trim to height as needed.
2] replace the front ramp with one that has a 3/8ths dovetail, choose the blade of my liking / correct height. Problem is trying to locate said ramp that has the 1.5" screw-hole spacing that the Encore barrel has. The must be a crap load of them out there, but finding one on the net....... ::) . XS makes / has them, but they don't ship to Canada.

A few more thoughts on choosing a front blade.
I already have a carbine with a peep with a 1/16th bead sight on the front. I really like it. I like to put the small bead RIGHT ON the POI, and being small, it doesn't obliterate the target. A straight blade sight won't really facilitate this, which is why I desire a small bead sight. I've pretty much given up on using one of the tritium sights, as they are just too large in diameter / thickness for my needs. Even the Skinner blades are .070 thick........too thick for my needs.

The Encore SS 12" 44 mag barrel has not arrived in the mail yet, and I am needing some measurements for figuring this sight fabrication / correct height stuff out. Can someone please tell me what the diameter of  this barrel is, at the front blade? I know the barrel is 1.00" at the chamber. Also, what is the thickness of the Encore front sight blade? I may start looking around for some silver or perhaps another sight to grind down and place in the TC ramp.
