I know that sounds ludicrous, ridiculous, and unreasonable.  It is just the type of Saturday morning, thinking outside of the box question, that is probably encouraging to a Professional Taxidermist.  Meat Hunters would cry foul, but its affect on Sport Hunting would be significant.  I personally would have an ARMY of stuffed pigs out of the more than 500 I have shot (I can hardly imagine [but would love to see] that scene of 500 stuffed pigs!!!)...or maybe not!  I would have been SIGNIFICANTLY choosier with the animals taken (but I am a meat hunter - so I cry foul!).  Of course the sheer volume of mounts would decrease the price per mount.  Perhaps new means and methods of mounting would be discovered that save time, reduce the taxidermist's labor and swiftly preserve the mount - not that the current methodologies are lacking, but the demand would drive the Market.  Then there is that pesky problem of the zillions of household mounts and where to store them...if Mama would even let them in the house (now there's a chilling consideration)!!!  Moving Companies would need more trucks.  Houses would be larger.  Liberals would stay in their own mount-less homes (hehe).  I get these weird ideas when bored.  I need to go hunting.

I would think a desire for more mounts (demand) would exceed the ability of the existing taxidermist (supply) and drive up the price of mounts.
Because each animal is unique in size and shape, there will always be a limit to how much mass production can be applied.
But I agree that you do need to go hunting.
I am in a tripod right now, waiting on a coyote too wander by.

meaning, slow down or change hunting in a negative way ?
yes, having to mount every animal would dramatically change hunting..
but its not going to happen.

Temporarily, yes, until the supply of soon-to-be-experienced taxidermists caught up to demand then the price per mount would fall, probably in relation to the magnitude of animals taken, and stabilize as well.

Wish I could go on a hog hunt today.  The weather is perfect.  My duck hunting partner and his wife are arriving for lunch later today.  My spousal unit is in her Every-Other-Decade Spring cleaning mode this morning, and I am stuck here with the out-of-hunting-season Blues.  My motivation is also sucked dry by 25-years at the same business, a couple of supervisory associates who make life miserable there, and the sinking economy ruining what could have been a bright and foreseeable retirement.

Seeing as how I've been deer hunting for many many years and have yet to shoot anything worth mounting. If I had to mount anything I shot, I would have never shot anything and quit hunting altogether many years ago.

Certainly raise the price. If it cost me an extra $600 to pull the trigger I would think twice about it. Quality of mounts could slip a bunch I suppose. Skin it, tan it, and stuff with dry grass, staple edges to a sheet of plywood.  ;D
