front site for my 101
« on: April 29, 2012, 10:26:39 AM »
I want to replace the factory ,black ramp ,front site on my sp-101.  Anyone have any suggestions ?  I've been looking at the Trijijicon or similar type site.  I just find the black ramp is too hard for me to see.  A poster from another forum suggested a "big dot" front , says he just layes it on top of the rear groove , works for him.  I'm afraid that will really change my POI . Seems that would make it shoot pretty high.  I'm open for advice from those who have changed theirs.  Thanks in advance   :)

I do not like  glow in the dark front sights.I will not go into why,but I do like green fiberoptic front sights. For the Ruger SP101, go to Gemini Customs, they have everything you may need. HTH Doug

Thanks , Canon6.

I'll give them a try.  Ya think the fober optic is strong enough.  I put a Marbles fiber optic on my SRH with a One Ragged Hole on the rear.  It did work great....but I was always careful with it....it just didn't look very strong.

I bought the XS big dot and do not like it.  It is just to big and does not line up in the rear grove...the only way to shoot it is to set the big dot on top of the grove.  This is how the dot would work in low light any way because you will not be able to tell if you are in the rear sight or not just have to move up and down until you see all of it.  This will be fine for defense (which is what it is designed for) but leave a lot to be desired for accuracy work at the range.

I wanted a night sight for it, but am now thinking I will keep the factory site and get laser grips to aid in low light shooting.

I am thinking about painting the front sight with a white line and possibly paint the rear grove black and add a white line to it.  I tend to pick up the white lines on black the best.

Matt ,  I had C.T grips on a 2", 686.  I called it my "nite-stand" gun.  In my opinion, there is nothing better on a home defense weapon.  They were the over-molded type rubber with front activation.....they were horrable for trying to hide under a shirt though ,....shirts just don't slide on rubber very well.  Think I'll try the Tijijicon nite site...that seems to fit my requirements. The Badger grips should allow it to conceal easily  . BTW ...still waiting for my "new" 101.

I have 3 sp 101's, 2 in 32 H&R mag caliber & 1 in 22lr. All I did to mine was paint the front sight ramp with orange nailpolish. Stands out nicely with the factory white outline rear sight. And costs almost nothing.  ;) Works for me.

Pastorp ,Yea , sounds like that would work.  I've only got a groove on the rear though....probably wouldn't stand out as well.  I have thought about having a J frame sight placed on the rear...I know several places that do that.  But , I'm trying to avoid the big money.  Thanks for your thoughts.
