Ok, here is the preverbial question once again. I would like to come to Mt. with my two sons for our first "real" Varmint hunt experience. By real, I mean comming to Mt. with 5000 rounds or more in various calibers between us and target ranges from as close as close can be out to 1000 yards and NOT comming home with loaded rounds. Yes that means doing some serious varmint and predation managment and bringing home memories of a life time and doing it ALL on a blue collar budget. That means not paying the rich man prices charged by so many of the advertised ranches / hunting lodge folks I see all over the net and various
hunting magizines. SO, the question is, does anyone in or framiliar with Mt. have "solid" information on where to go preferably western to central Mt. ?

I just moved from mt. back to this armpit of a state nm . I lived on the western side by missula . there is some state land around , but the indains
have most lands and is a pain to deal with. I did work for an outfitter in the north east part , They're name was chase hill outfitters ,his name is Bill Brown nice feller .. There is prairedogs every where . plus yotes gallor . and there is plenty of state land to hunt . If you want cheap get a
motel , and forrest map .
I've never seen so many praiedog in my life as I did up there, and one of these days I'll be back , trying to melt my barrels.. hope you get to go ..

Like Joe says, most of the high-volume stuff is "out east", as we call it. Other'n local pest control around here, that's where we in the mountains on the west side go for wholesale rat blasting. That's also where the guides can sometimes charge big $$ too, so be forewarned!

Another problem is that the dogtown you saw last year might have been completely wiped out by plague by the time you get set up, so it's imperative to have someone on the phone nearby to give you the skinny on conditions prior to your coming.

If you know the location of a specific area you want to shoot, you can track down the landowners on the state's website, www.discoveringmontana.com, which is a big help.

I was up in alittle one horse town called Big sandy , it's by Haver . you don't really want to go untill late may or june .. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hello Trapper & Redial,
Thanks for the tips, I will look into the link too and search for some friendly landowners. I'm still open to anyone else having good advice too, as I know there are gazillion dogs waiting for the taste of lead and copper. Montana is definately big enough so if anyone is worried about "their own" dawg town getting stepped on fret not, I don't plan on a search and conquer mission. Just some good old fun in the sun with my sons. It's weird how many people I talk to around here (Wash.ST.) think they must keep hush hush that "private piece" of dawg town real estate in Montana... Sheesh

Hi Joe, I have always thought that NM was a nice place but sounds like you found it to be not so. No dogs to shoot there ?lol

Hello , NM is a prety state it's the people mostly and poverty level .I was born to this state and love the country ,the hunting is good, I just don't like whinning wel fare democratic people . We are one of the lowest nra
member states . People stopped caring about there guns ........
I am a rancher in central nm ,and i run a trap line for fun . the $$$$
is nice ,but I'd do it without ..
In montana people are still neiborly . Pass someone on the road and they still wave ,
Anyways thats my veiw on nm anyone else want to coment
