Lexus Arms
« on: March 19, 2012, 04:35:06 AM »
Greetings fellow single-shot lovers.  Anyone have any experience with the new Lexus Arms single shot stalking rifle. I handled one at my favorite dealer here in PA this past week. It felt great, and was just beautiful. With a case-hardened receiver, and exquisite Turkish walnut, nice and trim, balanced beautifully. Begs for a compact scope (my choice - Swaro Z 3 in 3-9X). It can take additional barrels, if I'm not mistaken. Looks and feels like it's very well made. This one was in .243, but there are many caliber and other options. I would very much appreciate some feedback from those of you who own one, and/or have some field experience with them (or Lexus Arms).

OMG! Eye candy is right! Has anyone really shot one, taken it on a hunt, taken game? Other than the pics Lexus shows on their website, real experience with the gun in the field? (gun seems like a weak word for it). Appears to be a piece of art at a reasonable price, viz a vis the Euro singles (K-1, Hubertus, K-95). Would be nice to have a quality Euro-style stalking rifle at a "reasonable price" made on this side of the pond. At first glance, it compares extremely favorably to a Krieghoff Hubertus (Eight grand!!) in fit, finish and feel. There's a super dealer here in PA, EuroOptic, that stocks them.

Sounds to me like you are ready to take the bait.  Pick one up and let us know how it performs. ;D

They certainly are classy looking.

The American Rifleman just had a article on them this month--they are expensive. The handi looks better all the time.

The rifle featured in the American Rifleman is mine.  A different barrel & caliber was used for the test.  The fit and finish are outstanding and the switch barrel capability will allow many uses.   I am very proud to own one.

Let's be honest.  It's not eye candy, it's gun porn.  You could go blind.

I agree! It is gun porn. Now, I have to figure out how I'm going to afford it. Darn, life do get complicated! I'm thinkin, case-hardened receiver in .243, w/Swaro 3X9. Ouch!  (I do have lots of other calibers, just not that one - and I can order other barrels/calibers - that's definitely gun porn-evil temptation).

I'm saving for one, & I believe I'll get it in 250 savage.   :o it will be my old man hunting rifle. It will go right next to my last old man hunting rifle. A browning 1885 in 243.

pastorp, I'm seriously thinking on saving for the one I saw, which was in .243, a caliber which will fit a gap. Like you, I keep saying it will be may last purchase, but last week a Ruger #1B in .204 Ruger came home with me, and I've also been lusting after a Fr. Jung & Sohn 16/8X57 that someone is willing to part with. So, who's to say when we stop. All I know is that the Luxus Mod 11 that I handled is light, beautiful and balanced. I could be happy forever with that.

I apologize, pastorp, I took your "old man hunting rifle" as being your last old man hunting rifle. Which, of course, is incorrect. I am 67 years "young," and I keep telling myself that I have to stop this nonsense of constantly purchasing rifles. But.....  after playing w/the Luxus, it has just gotten under my skin and won't leave. I really am into light, well-balanced accurate guns, the Luxus is certainly that (and the fact that it is beautiful and a take-down/interchangeable barrel system is a bonus).

Pastorp, have you seen the new trigger guard treatment on the rifle that's on their home page? Wow, talk about a Gibbs-Farquharson / Ruger look. It is beautiful. Absolutely classic. I think they nailed it. I, for one, think that the side-cocking mechanism is good, and doesn't detract from the looks of the gun. Didn't like the TC-like trigger guard treatment very much, but this new trigger guard opening lever is super neat.

Actually there's a better (larger) picture of it on their home page. It is their "C" grade.

I just couldn't take something that beautiful into the woods. I'd cry like a baby if I scratched it. I'll stick with my Encore rifle.

Hillbill, it has interchangeable barrels, you can order it with any caliber barrel you want (may pay a little bit more for a non-standard caliber).

Kynardsj, I hear you about scratching the wood.  I think that with reasonable care those stocks should make it through life. They can always be refinished to look brand-new. A little ding here and there won't hurt anything, and will add character to your gun.

These stocks are Turkish walnut and they are very hard and finished with teak oil.  If you scratch it use some Watco teak oil from Lowes and a piece of 1000 grit wet/dry.  The scratches go away.

I have an extra barrel in 260 on order.  Should be here within the month.  Whomever posted about the 250 Savage has been reading my mail.  I think that would be a perfect caliber for it.

Great rifles, beautifully made and the guys there are first rate...
