Taurus Tracker Feedback
« on: February 13, 2003, 05:44:31 AM »
Looking for any feedback on the Tuarus Tracker. Specifically the .357 mag. (Model 627, I believe). My son is considering the purchase of one. I suggested that he also consider a Colt Python from one of the auction sites. However, after thinking on it, he could buy the Taurus, and take it to a good gunsmith and have the action tuned to be as slick as the Python, and probably save a few bucks in the process.

I don't have a tracker but a model 66 in .357 and love it!  Tell your son to go with the Tracker, you won't be sorry!

I have 2 trackers 1 is 357 with a 6" barrel and the other is a 45 Colt with a 4" barrel.  They are great guns and fairly accurate.  Before you go to a gunsmith with your Tracker just dry fire it about 1000 times.  Thats what I did and they are both nice smooth puls with a little stacking cause of the coil spring.  If you want a really smooth trigger get a S&W.  But the fit and finish are about the same as a new S&W but not a pre 88.

Taurus guns used to have a bad rap for fit and finish and an even worse rep for service.

Colts are pretty, but pricey.

Smiths are nice and have the best triggers out of the box, but some of  their political moves have pissed a lot of people of (including me) and I have yet to see a Smith that could handle a steady diet of heavy handloads in any caliber.

If you want a medium frame .357, take a look at the 4-inch GP100 - a great buy for the money and strong enough to handle just about any reasonable handload.

I picked up a used SS, full lug version for $300.

X FLATLANDER  , My Taurus  has perfect fit and haz a wonderful finish , I looked at many guns before choseing the Tracker , being this was my first
first bigbore handgun , It was by far the most practical with the .41mag. round. .357 Tracker would be a fine choice .  I 've owned .357 & .38 ,s in both S&W and Rugers. All fine guns but Really to heavy and bulky in the big bore rounds.
