Newbie question: Shelf life of lubed bullets and ammo?

Is there a "shelf life" for cast bullets that have been lubed?  Typically, how long can they be stored before lube must be re-applied?  What about storage of hand loaded ammo with lubed cast bullets?  How long can ammo be stored before the lube becomes questionable?

Today I shot a box of .357-158 grain cast that I loaded in August of 1988. They had been stored in a cool basement all this time and all shot just fine.

I don't know yet.  The oldest bullets I still have a little of was cast/sized/lubed in '65 and I know it's still fine so I doubt anything younger would cause a problem.  The oldest ammo I have are a few remaining rounds of WW2 .30-06 but last I fired any of it, all was well; I might wonder about WW1 surplus ammo tho.  ??
