Golf cart type ATV

Anyone here use the ATVs that look like a golf cart? A friend is trying to talk me into looking at one but I just wonder how well they would work.
And how reliable they are. I understand they come in gas or electric models.

Depends on what you want it for.  I have used both and I would never trade my 4-wheeler for one.  They are expensive and their parts are obscenely expensive.  They are less maneuverable and terrain limited.  If you stay mostly on roads and like to carry lots of crap and visit with your passenger then they are great.  For farming they are wonderful.  For hunting, I'd rather have a Willis or a 4 wheeler.  Everything has its place and its fans so its basically up to you.  If you get an electric one, never drive out further than you are willing to walk back.

Irrice, have any idea how much a golf cart might be able to tow? In the not to distant future, I'm going in for hip surgery. My garden is a good 300yds behind my house. I have to haul water. Right now, I'm using my compact tractor, or riding lawn mower. And, it's real hard for me to throw a leg over the seat. My wife suggested that getting in or out of a golf cart would be alot easier. I can weld up a small cart that can hold a small tank of water,(40-50 gal.), and I could even put a small hose with nozzle on it, so I could drive down the rows,at least while the plants are small, and water them. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks-gypsyman

get gas. takes a great deal of power to keep electric charged. i've owned 3. i bought a john deere gator and i'll never go back. best on the market.

I agree with fatercat, gas is much better.  I have a friend that uses one in the pits for his race car and it can tow a small trailer.   It is a gas golf cart and he has raised it a bit and put atv tires on it.  It is best suited for running around it, not really a work vehicle.  As long as it is fairly flat and you have a decent trailer, I don't see why it wouldn't tow a barrel (that is for an actual golf kart).  The Mules, Gators etc will tow a pretty decent load with no problem.  I had a Mule once and we would carry two 55-gallon bbls in the back full of water + quickcrete and tools with no problems never felt the need to have a trailer for it.  If I had the $$, for what it sounds like you're doing, the Mule/Gator type would work much better than an actual golf cart. 

Also Bombardier and John Deere both made/make a step through atv that may be the best of both worlds for you.
