Haven't Been Around Much
« on: May 16, 2012, 09:24:47 AM »
Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I have to start dialysis and I have been dealing with everything that goes with that little problem.
This is off topic and if the moderators chose to delete this post I will understand.
Oh, I did just send off the money order for a new HMR Large Economy Size Golf Ball Mortar.
Dialysis ain't gonna stop me!

My condolences.  I'm not there yet but it could happen.  I'm sure you're not alone.

Keep that good attitude! while keeping focus on the fight ahead it can't be allowed to take over every aspect of your life, I hope you have family around to support you through this difficulty, I'll keep you in my prayers for a full recovery.

Kabar, that is the strange part of this problem. There is no recovery. I will be on dialysis three days a week (4 hours a shot) for the rest of my life. This has been coming for several years but just like other things you are not quite ready for it when it does happen.
This is not a death sentence. Just means I have to be hooked up to a machine to filter my blood. I will still be above the ground and making smoke, fire and a whole lot of noise. Gotta keep the neighbors awake.  ;D
I did get an ipad to play with and the dialysis center has wifi so I will have more time to read and respond to posts.

I need to slow down and fully read posts sometimes before I write..... for some reason I equated what was written with cancer and chemo a very different thing..... sorry for the confusion, still hope you have friends and family around for support.

God Bless,

This isn't going to affect our crawdad feed is it?

Seriously are you candidate for a transplant?

Brokenpole,   Mike and I send our very best wishes and will ask you to show some smoke and fire pics asap, well......after you receive that new HMR mortar!

I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,

Douglas, you are getting a little late for crawdads but we might be able to scrouge a few pounds up. You want corn and taters too?   ;)
At a place right now where I am not even thinking of transplant. I just want to get this started and get on a routine. The diet restrictions don't just go away if you get a new organ and we have to see how well we can live with those restrictions.
I do have some other issues that might affect my ability for transplant. For now we are just thankful that there is a treatment that can keep me alive.
We will keep y'all posted.

Take the diet changes seriously, they make a huge difference.  My Dad had one kidney removed years earlier.  Mom, the former Home Ec teacher, kept Dad strictly on the diet.  He seemed happy with it.  The diet kept him off dialysis for a couple of years.   The fewer things you take in that the kidneys need to filter out, the easier time you have.

Brokenpole,

I'm sorry to hear that you require dialysis, but recently when a relative was in medical rehab I had the pleasure of meeting a gentleman who was proscribed the same treatment, and he said it wasn't as big a hassle as he'd thought it would be. As you've already mentioned, he said the worst thing was the boredom while hooked up to the machine, so he takes along things that will intelligently occupy his time during the treatment. Good luck.

Hey, many moons ago, you said that someday you were going to clue us in as to how your wife was given the name "Smokinbeaver", and you got the moniker "Brokenpole." Now unless I missed it, you haven't come clean on this promise yet; so how about it?

Edit: I guess my memory isn't as good as I thought it was, but at least I had half the nickname right.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Wish you all the best with a continued great quality of life and a new HMR mortar.

Kinda reminds me of when we were looking at the place we live... I mentioned I was into CW ordnance to the real estate agent and that my wife was on a long down-ward road of a terminal illness and I wanted to care for her as long as I could at home...
When I started to get cold feet on the deal he said, "heck this place is perfect for you.  When care-giving gets too tough to handle just roll your cannon out of the garage into the drive and put about three rounds into the bluff back there and you'll be good to go for at least the rest of the day".  ;D   Boy did he "have my number".  :D

Sometimes "fire and smoke" are the very best perscription there is...  ;)   Too bad there isn't a shooting range by the machine and a long set of tubes...

Good luck and God Bless...
