I THINK YOU NEED ONE!
I bought one and love it! I then bought a .22LR. I'm saving up for a .357!
Those Trackers fit my smallish hand like they were custom made for me.
I haven't shot my .17 Tracker passed 100 yards but I'll take a shot at that distance in a heartbeat. DO NOT HOLD OVER! It's a dead-on flat shooter!
I abosolutlely LOVE those Trackers!

i have a ruger 77/17 with green mountain barrel and love it. I was thinking I might need a handgun in the same caliber. ET

I have a 357 tracker and really like it. The 17 should be a good gun.

I've been looking for the right .17HRM handgun for a little while now for squirrel hunting. I was pretty set on getting the Contender G2 with the 14" .17 barrel, but am now looking more seriously at the Taurus Tracker model 17SS6 for the size (and $$).
http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=17SS6&category=Revolver.
I talked to a dealer about this piece and he assured me that it was drilled and tapped to accept the ($42.50) optional Taurus scope mounting base, but I can't find anything to support this on Taurus's website.
Can someone confirm for me that the gun is scope (mount) ready?

I own the taurus .17 cal revolver you are talking about, and yes it is scope mount ready. The taurus scope base clamps to the top rib on the barrel. I have a scope on mine and it is a very accurate gun that is great for squirrels. My local dealer had a hard time finding the scope base because it is a special size for the tracker and smaller than the one for the raging bull.

I couldn't find the scope mount either last year for my 357 tracker. If I remember right I got it somehow through their website or a link. I believe the mount is the same for all trackers.

I handled a 6" SS tracker in .22 cal today. Nice looking gun, don't much care for the 'ribber' grip however. Who makes a good custom wood grip for the Tracker line? I'd like something oversized....
Also I'm glad to see from stevinator's post that the rear sight doesn't have to be removed to mount the scope base....

I can't find my receipt for the scope mount but I think I got it from
www.cheaperthandirt.com
. I was looking at gp100's when I bought this gun.But after comparing them I thought I'd try the taurus. You get rubber grips ,vent rib and ported barrel in ss and 7 shots for about the same price. I bought it for hunting so I like the idea of leaving the open sights on all sighted in just in case of optical problems. The gp mounts look like the rear sight has to go. I am used to the grips after shooting it a while. I thought I would want some hogues or something on it but I kind of like them now. But I don't have real large hands, maybe that makes a difference. :-)

steve,
what is the brand of the mount base you have,
Taurus (10-034) or B-Square (42301) ?
Couldn't find either @ cheaperthandirt.com. I want to make sure either of these can be put on without removing rear site.

Yes mine is the taurus 10-034. I wish I could be more help.I looked at
www.natchezss.com
and didn't come up with it there either.I would think a email or phone call off of the taurus website might work.CTD had what looked like mounts for the raging bull. Midway had b-square for the raging bull and gp's.If you call CTD they can probably get it. I bought my pistol from a gander mountain store and they said they could get the mount last spring but I didn't buy it at that time.So I am assuming they would've got it from taurus. These pistols are getting popular in the different cals so maybe some of these places are just out right now. Good Luck and keep me posted I might need one for .17

Steve,
I called Taurus and they are way backordered on the 10-034. Luckily another member here at GBO had one he was willing to part with and its on the way.... Now on to figure what scope to use. Want to go with a 1-3mOA Red Dot or HOLOSight....

I have red dots on 2 handguns but I believe they are 5 minute dots. I think I could shoot them on paper alot better with a 2x or 4x pistol scopes. My dot is basically covering 5'' at 100 yds. Bushnell had a dot that I heard from a co-worker that works well from some of the above sites. It has 4 reticles to switch around and one is a crosshair. And I believe one is around 1''. It depends on if you want super accuracy or hunting accuracy. I use mine for hunting and they work well. If one of mine quits I would like to try the bushnell mentioned above. I think they were under 80.00 dollars. :-)

CTD is short for cheaper than dirt. they are 800-421 8047. natchez is 800-251-7839 and 800 888-3006 is sportsmans guide shooters catalog. You can check a model between all three, for most stuff natchez is cheaper. The last # up there has a good sale on now on red dots and scopes in in their shooters catalog. They will send you a catalog and they are reputable, I have ordered from them off and on for a long time.

You might know I found the receipt for my scope mount tonight by accident. It came from
www.thegunsource.com
. I looked over there under manufacturers and they still list it. 42.00 is the price, I don't know if they have any in stock. the taurus mount fits the 17-970-971and 627.
