Hello-

I'm the ggg granddaughter of Jamima Sizemore. I cannot seem to locate her first husband's name anywhere (surname: Carter). He and Jamima had married, had two children and he had passed away between censuses (sp?).
Also, I am unable to narrow down (documentation-wise) exactly which Henry Sizemore is Jamima's father. Can you help me with this. I see you have info regarding Henry Sizemore and family, but your paper trail hasn't been listed. I would greatly appreciate anything you would care to share.

My paper trail started with the Family Bible of my great-grandparents Francis Marion and Mary Edney(Nipper)Warren. I found out that Francis Marion Warren's parents were John Wesley Warren and Frances "Fanny" Sizemore. I made some post on the internet to see if I could find anyone else that was related to John Wesley and Frances.

I received an e-mail from Steve Evans that told me that his mother Carolyn was a descendant of Nancy E Warren Box Falkner, who was a daughter of John Wesley and Frances. Carolyn sent me some information that she had found. It was in a book about the Sizemore's, who claimed Cherokee Blood.

Here is what she sent me: Also Martha J Box was the twin sister of Nancy E.

SIZEMORE  page 70  #21015- Martha J Box

"My name is Martha J Box and I reside at Addixon, Ala. I was born in Calhoun Co., Ala. in 1856. I claim relationship to the Cherokee Indians through my mother whose name before she was married was Fannie Sizemore, and through my grandmother, Martha Sizemore. My grandmother's maiden name was Martha Hyte and she married Henry Sizemore. Henry Sizemore, to the best of my knowledge, was Ephriam Sizemore's son. My grandfather Sizemore died on Christmas Day, 1856. Grandfather Sizemore died, probably, in Calhoun Co,., Ala. he never received any money from the Government on account of being an Indian, to the best of my knowledge. my grandparents must have lived in Gwinnett Co., Ga. part of their lifetime, as I have heard my mother speak of having gone back there to visit them. My mother was recognized as a white woman and Granfather Henry Sizemore was recognized as a white man. I have heard my folks talk about old man George Sizemore and Own(sic)Sizemore and Joseph Sizemore and Lydia Sizemore and great-grandfather Ephriam Sizemore but there were so many of them and it was so far back I can't just tell what relation I am to them. I claim my Indian blood through the Sizemores, whom I have just mentioned, on my mother's side. I also claim Indian blood through my grandmother, martha Hyte. She lived in Georgia and various places. My grandmother died in 1876 and I have seen her a great many times. She was recognized as a white woman in the community in which she lived. She never got any money from the Government on account of her Indian Blood. I never heard anything about her being enrolled. I don't know that my grandmother ever talked about her Indian blood, but my mother has. My grandparents lived in South Carolina and my mother may have been born in South Carolina. My mother has been dead about three years. She was born in 1826, and I think she lived in Gwinnett Co., Ga. in 1835, and likely lived in Calhoun County, Ala. in 1851. She never received any money from the Government.  Nancy E Flakner(20891)
is my twin sister and makes claim through the same source as myself."
Signed: Martha J Box, Haleyville, Ala., Jun 29, 1908.

My next paper trail was looking through the Calhoun County, Alabama census at the Alabama Room at the Anniston/Cahoun County Library in Anniston, Alabama.

While looking at the 1850 Benton(now Calhoun)County Census I found these:

#423-425
Sisemore, H-58-M-SC
              M-45-F-SC
               A-17-M-GA
               P-14-F-GA
               J-13-F-GA
               WC-11-M-GA
               MLJ-9-F-GA
                 M-7-F-GA
                HH-6-M-GA
                ED-4-F-GA

You will notice that Sizemore is spelled Sisemore.

I hope that some of this helps.
Faye

I'd also heard that. It'd be great to have a library of Sizemore research books to compare the information  ;D

I'm slightly (actually, more than slightly) lost at this point. What you had shared with me, above, is actually the only info that I'd seen that had been from published media, rather than electronic (other than copies of census').

Dawn,  Have you done any research at the Alabama Room at the Anniston/Calhoun County Library in Anniston, Alabama?  Please let me know if there is anything else that I might be able to help with.  I still don't know when my great-great-grandparents Frances"Fanny"Sizemore and John Wesley Warren married.  Maybe someday I will find someone who has that information.

Hi Faye-
Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to visit either place. I currently live in Oregon and haven't had a chance to get to Alabama - although, believe me, I'd love to should the opportunity arise!
I have distant relatives that live in the area, but none interested enough to do a little footwork for me :)
I'm still seeking Sizemore/Carter info. I have a feeling that I won't find any answers unless I do make the trip!
I think Jemima and Mr. Mystery Carter may have been married in Benton County, but I'm not sure - just a guess based upon the Census locations.
Anyhoot, thank you for the offer! If you find any addtional info, please let me know and I'll be sure to do the same!
Good luck!
Dawn
