My first FA...How'd I do?
« on: May 13, 2012, 05:26:43 PM »
I've dreamed of a FA 83 .454 for the last 20 yrs. Back then as most know they were around $1100. I was paying $300-$400 for most handguns and figured I'd never own a $1100 revolver. Move forward to a couple months ago and I walk into my LGS. I see what looks like a 83 hanging on the wall. Had never seen one there before. Ask to look at it and knew right away my dream is gonna come true. It was a 7 1/2" Premier Grade used in mint condition. Has the rosewood grips and to top it off; the Leupold 4X scope. It has the mount on the FA website, so I'm guessing this was purchased together maybe. It doesn't show a grade on the frame so its a early Premier grade I have learned. Price was $1079. After looking at it for only a few seconds, the salesman said we might be able to knock a little more off it. Got it for $1019. Put it on layaway right away and sold my Taurus Raging Bull .454. Didnt hesitate a second on selling the Taurus. Must admit though, the FA is more of a handful to shoot. And it is mag-na-ported. This is a gun I will never let go.

I almost clicked the "report to moderator" button because you STOLE this thing. Really nice gun, gun alone would be a great deal, throw in a $200 scope and $?? mount and...wow

I've been on the fence about an 83 to go with my 97 but I can't decide between the 454 and the 475. Until I know for sure I'll keep shooting the 97 and be happy I get to own one FA.

Again, nice purchase.

edited to add, Really good photo too.

You stole it, indeed. That's a Buehler mount, and it probably was mounted at the factory. Very nice.

Good job. I was at my local gun show yesterday and saw my second FA there after going for about 5 - 6 years now. It was a FA83 in .454 field grade going for $1100.00. LNIB.. I have one in .44 and looking for a .45 Colt.
Granddaddy told me Lincoln was a Republican and look what he did to the South.

I paid 1300.00 for the same revolver several years ago sans the scope, and felt that I received a good deal. My base is a TSOB, which now wears a 2X Leupold. I also got a Freedom Arms holster, chest rig, and cartridge slide. She is also one fine shooting revolver, and definitely a keeper. Congrats on the deal. Best regards, Jay
