New study says sugar consumption makes you dumb  New study says sugar consumption makes you dumb New study says sugar consumption makes you dumb   by WHAS11 WHAS11.com Posted on May 16, 2012 at 8:37 AM       (WHAS11) - Here is one more reason to cut back on your sugar consumption: a new study finds that too much of the sweet stuff is bad for your brain.
Researchers say rats who were fed high-fructose corn syrup had a significantly harder time finding their way through a maze than rats who were kept on a normal diet.
The sweetener is found in soda, baby food, and processed snack foods.
Health officials say the average American consumes more than 40 pounds of high-fructose corn syrup a year.

High fructose corn syrup is NOT sugar. It is a kind of sugar, but it is NOT the same thing as cane sugar.

true , but even cane sugar in excess is bad . But carbs are as bad if eaten in excess also. So skipping pie to eat taters and bread isn't good either  ;)

Bottom line for me with HFCS is that I don't eat it. That means no more ketchup that is made with it, and a lot of other things. If I check a label and see HFCS, it the product goes back on the shelf. Ketchup and sweeteners at fast food restaurants use it too. Don't eat that stuff!

It messes with your insulin management system and it prevents you from feeling full, so you will tend to eat more. That's only one of the bad things about it.

That's a maybe for me , but I do wonder how many ,my self included would be diabetic had we never been fed corn syurp ? I ask this because today I am diabetic . Before finding out I was diabetic I had allegeries . I had switched from pancake syurp to maple syurp because of the allergeries . After finding out I was diabetic I stopped all soft drinks with corn sugar and candy with same and allergies went away. It was the first time in 37 years I did not suffer from them , took 2 shots a week for most of the time. Today I can enjoy foods like cake with iceing, icecreams etc if made with cane sugar and if not in excess there is no effect to my blood sugar reading . but 6 ozs of soft dring or corn syurp and its over 250 . My doctor said he didn't have a clue why this is the way it effects me . One baked potato even a small one and sugar level is over 300 .

I have for many years been telling my family and close friends that "You are what you eat"  and preached a healthy alkaline diet to them as well.

Many of my friends have had all sorts of health problems over the years. Most if not all of the people I have talked to at first thought I was nuts ( If it was true the government and doctors would tell us so) and they were not willing to change their diets to even try. Several of them over the years have came back to me after exhausting all other options. I guess when you have nothing else to lose you will try anything. Everyone I know that has took the information I gave them and followed the diets are healthy now and swear by a healthy diet.

Here are a few tips that might help you and could have noticeable results in just a few weeks.
STOP MICROWAVING YOUR FOOD!!!! It has been proven to have a direct affect on hemoglobin and cholesterol levels. So if you have a cholesterol problem throw your microwave out the back door and watch it get back to normal provided you eat properly.

EAT FRESH PRODUCE. It has been shown that in order for your body to process the vitamins found in the food you eat the enzymes need to still be viable in the food. Store bought caned food DOES NOT HAVE VIABLE ENZYMES!!! Fresh produce if over cooked or fried looses the enzymes as well. Steamed or fresh is the best way to go as shown by countless studies.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CONSUME ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS. Pure cane sugar, honey or other natural sugars are the only sugars that your body knows how to process and any other sweetener will be treated as toxins and expelled from the body through the various organs and create other health problems over time.

ONLY EAT FRESH DAIRY PRODUCTS. If you have a local dairy buy all your dairy products there. Please note that the Vitamin D added to milk is a last ditch effort to put something back into the milk that the processing of it kills but again no enzymes are present and the vitamin D is treated as a toxin and flushed. I can no longer advocate RAW MILK as the US JUSTICE DEPT has decided to arrest anyone doing so but I strongly recommend you do the research or talk to the older generations that got it straight from the cow/goat many years ago on the benefits of it.

BUY LOCALLY RAISED BEEF, PORK AND OTHER MEATS. Get your meat from a place that you know sells locally raised livestock. This way you can find out what the animals were fed and what chemicals will be in your meat. Try to limit your meat consumption so as to be only 25% of your meal and if beef and locally raised and pesticide free then eat it more rare than cooked. (reason, the blood in the meat contains the enzymes needed to to act as a bridge between your body and the vitamins, minerals and proteins in the food) Well done meat and any beneficial properties it might have had will be treated as toxins and flushed.

STAY AWAY FROM FRIED FOODS. It has been proven that the process of frying food creates not only free radical in the food but also in the air around the food as it is cooked there by giving the preparer a double dose of unhealthiness. I my self still consume a little fried food but nothing like I did years ago. (Gotta have my fried catfish and chicken)

CUT OUT FAST FOOD AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. PINK SLIM IS NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION! Nor is half of the other crap they put in fast food these days... I do not eat it and wish my family would stop...!( Yeah I am talking to you Heather, GB and Mrs GB)

What Is the Difference Between Sucrose, Glucose & Fructose?       Jul 24, 2011 | By Ashley Jacob  Ashley Jacob is a registered dietitian. She has experience working with people who have diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and obesity issues. Jacob obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science, both in nutrition, from Laval University in Quebec City, Canada.    Ingredients ending in "ose" usually belong to the family of sugars. Food manufacturers often use different ingredient names when listing the sugars in the ingredient lists including sucrose, glucose and fructose. Although these sugars may be slightly different, they remain sugars. You should consume sugars, as well as sugar-containing foods, in moderation to control your weight and maintain optimal health. Structure The main differences between sucrose, fructose and glucose is their molecular structures. Sucrose is a disaccharide, which means that it is made of two molecules, one glucose and one fructose, bonded together, as explained in the 2008 edition of "Understanding Normal and Clinical Nutrition." Fructose and glucose, on the other hand, are monosaccharides, which means that they are made of a single molecule of sugar. Food Sources The main source of sucrose is found in cane sugar and beet sugar, which are used to produce table sugar; the same type of sugar is also found in molasses, brown sugar and maple syrup. Honey does not contain sucrose, but contains roughly equal amounts of fructose and glucose. High-fructose corn syrup usually contains 55 percent fructose and 45 percent glucose, while agave syrup is made of 90 percent fructose and 10 percent glucose. Fruits usually contain small amounts of sucrose and varying proportions of fructose and glucose. Glucose is the basic molecule making starches. Many glucose molecules bonded together form starches, which are found in grains, legumes and starchy vegetables. Calories Content Each type of sugar, whether it is sucrose, fructose or glucose, provides the same amount of calories. One gram of sugar corresponds to 4 calories, which means that 1 teaspoon is roughly 16 calories and 1 tablespoon provides approximately 50 calories. ) However, the calorie and sugar content of the different foods containing sucrose, glucose and fructose can differ widely depending on the other nutrients present in the food. Effect on Health An excess consumption of sugar can cause weight gain and high blood sugar levels. However, depending on whether the foods you eat contain sucrose, fructose or glucose, the impact on your health may differ. When eating sucrose, your enzymes quickly separate the fructose and glucose from which it is made. The bond among the molecules of glucose in starches is also quickly broken to obtain free glucose. The glucose that either comes from free glucose, sucrose or starches contributes to elevating your blood sugar levels. Fructose, on the other hand, whether it comes from free fructose or sucrose, does not raise your blood sugar levels and is rather sent directly to your liver where it is metabolized. Although fructose does not elevate your blood sugar levels, excess fructose is associated with high triglycerides, according to Dr. Robert H. Lustig, Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology of the University of California, San Francisco.      References

I too am type II diabetic and when I was young drank 2-3 cokes a day.  Loved sweets.  It is true, some starchy food runs blood sugar up faster than others.  I had to cut out a lot of stuff, soft drinks, candy, etc.  I try to raise a lot of my own veggies, deer meat is far leaner than beef.  Fresh caught fish is also better than frozen fish sticks, etc.  Didn't know about the microwave stuff nor the rare meat.

there are some breads out there that are made without flour believe it or not. Eating anything made with bleached white flour is like pouring Portland cement into your intestine; things like white bread, hamburger and hot dog buns, flour tortillas.

"Daves Killer Bread" is good wholesome stuff, as is "Ezekiel Bread". They claim to get their recipes (almost completely whole unrefined grains and spelt) straight out of the bible.

Takes some getting used to. People at first , say it tastes like cardboard (but I've learned to like it and it cleans me out for sure).

I'd be hard pressed to give up my home fries and taters though.
